I ordered the mole and it was delicious — rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. While I did find it a bit overpriced, the quality was definitely there. I really enjoyed the decoration, warm service, and cozy ambiance. The music added to the vibe, though I’d highly recommend playing music in Spanish to match the cultural experience. One small suggestion: consider keeping the bathroom door unlocked for easier access. Overall, a lovely spot worth visiting!

I ordered the braised pork shank. 2lbs of meat! It fell off the bone with perfect seasoning. We came here before once it was featured on Check Please. They doubled its dining room size since our last visit. Very attentive customer service and a well laid out dining room. The flan for dessert was outstanding. Good stick in your spoon and stand density and just sweet enough. I highly recommend this spot. A little tough to spot off Contra Costa Blvd. Right off Ellenwood.

As soon as I opened the door I was greeted and seated and offered a drink. I was going to order to-go but glad I stayed a while. The customer service really is top tier, I felt like family by the time I was leaving. I ordered the Enchiladas Potosinas (3 handmade corn tortillas filled with black angus brisket braised with poblano chile strips and caramelized onions. Served over fire roasted tomatoes and guajillo sauce, with a sprinkle of cotija cheese and a side of spanish rice and organic black beans), this is a bit spicy but oh so flavorful! The masa is organically colored and flavored with chilis! ️ ️ ️ I also read some reviews that were raving about the empanadas so I tried this also, I was expecting a side dish but they are a full meal themselves. You get 2 large empanadas fully stuffed with shredded potato and cucumber topped with sour cream and Cotija cheese with a slaw salad and salsa on the side. I ate as much as I could and now have a full meal for lunch again tomorrow! I was tempted by the tres leches cake on the way out so I grabbed one of those for after dinner tonight. El Aguilar has earned themselves another lifelong customer, I’ll be back as often as possible!

Jorda, Josue y Byron are amazing at what they do. My daughter and I visited today for the first time and we were impressed by the flavor and attention to detail. We highly recommend you to try all home made desserts. They have a very unique taste. Lots of parking too.

Love that the restaurant offers four vegetarian fillings for their quesadillas, burritos, tortas, etc. We had a vegetarian burrito and vegetarian torta, and they were both really delicious! The chips and salsa were delicious too. Portions were large. Pictured is half of a main.

This place is a hidden gem!

It is next to a liquor store and empty stores probably due to pandemic but don’t let that fool you! Different experience when you walk in!

I found this place on TV show called check please. This was truly feel good food! They cook with integrity. I certainly didn’t feel like I was dining in a strip mall. Very clean casual restaurant but the food is amazing! I love restaurants that have specials!

The owners are very friendly and make you feel at home. Try the homemade hibiscus ice tea it was superb! Not too sweet at all! The fish tacos were so flavorful! The prawns were too! The salsa was yummy! Just taste very fresh!

They don’t serve tortilla chips but you can buy a basket of these homemade potato chips/salsa or they come with certain dishes. It was different but delightful. Addicting!

This is a great place to stop if you’re in the area for great Mexican cusine (so hard to find),friends/family in town, looking for a chill brunch spot or somewhere cozy for kids/family lunch or dinner! I will definitely be back and I don’t live in the area! It was that good 😉

5 stars for the beef burrito! The seasoning was amazing. The beef taco and mozzarella quesadilla were just okay, and the taquitos were nice and crunchy and came with a cup of delicious lentil soup. The table next to us ordered roast chicken, which looked amazing, and we loved the burrito so much we immediately decided to come back later and try the breakfast version.
