The food and service were excellent. Everything that Justin recommended was top tier. The beef suya was seasoned to perfection. The okra stew was savory and flavorful. The grill meenama lamb and jollof rice were excellent. If you haven’t tried African food, give it a try you won’t be disappointed. You can customize your spice level.

I’ve been dying to tryAfrican food and for valentine’s day my boyfriend surprised me for a date at this specific restaurant. We walked in to a pretty empty restaurant around 730pm, was greeted by the bartender and was told there were no seats available and the wait would be 10-15 mins. We were a bit confused because there were multiple booths open, but it gave us a chance to review the menu before being seated. We were finally seated and placed our drink order again with bartender we waited nearly 10-15 mins for drinks while she waited on people at the bar. Another waitress came during our wait we asked for water and never received it. The bartender came back with our drink Which were beautiful and very good. The non alcoholic menu was a nice option. we placed our food order and asked for water again. Never received it again. Finally our food came everything was delicious and very authentic which was delivered by another waitress that finally bought us water. While eating dinner a guy was messing with the lights, there was one point we were eating dinner in the dark for a min or two next thing we know the scene turned to a club…people with shades on in the dark, music so loud we couldnt even hold a conversation. We asked for boxes and our check…we waited twenty mins for a check. So i decided to pay at the bar because we had other places to be that evening The bartender had a very distasteful attitude not sure why….maybe because I asked her for a side of the sauce that came with my dinner that the other waitress did not bring Or maybe because she is being over worked being behind bar and waiting on tables at 8-9pm on a saturday night. Needless to say we won’t be back….the food was delicious but the service here was TERRIBLE. If we wanted to listen to club music over dinner we would have skipped dinner and went straight to the club.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hidden Gem in Frederick – My New Favorite West African Spot!
I’ve now been to this restaurant twice, and both experiences were so good that I felt compelled to write a full review. This place is truly a hidden gem in the Frederick area—easily my new go-to for West African food.
1. Atmosphere & Vibe
What first drew me in was how the restaurant actually allows you to sit down and unwind after a long day. I wasn’t expecting much, but the décor completely surprised me—modern, cute, lounge-style, and honestly “bomb.”
The vibe was lighthearted and fun… we even ended up doing karaoke! What shocked me was that no one minded. Guests were laughing, singing along, and the whole space felt welcoming and relaxed.
2. Huge Win for Parents – They Have a Kids Menu!
One of the biggest reasons I chose this restaurant over another was that I saw they had a kids menu. That’s extremely rare for African restaurants in the area.
My toddler doesn’t always go for West African dishes, so seeing chicken tenders and fries on the menu was the deciding factor. And let me tell you:
• The portion was huge
• The tenders were fresh, juicy, and seasoned—not the cheap frozen kind
• The fries were lightly seasoned without salt because the staff was conscious of kids’ sodium intake. They let me add salt myself, which as a mom, I deeply appreciated.
That small detail alone meant a lot.
3. Exceptional Service – Shoutout to Albina & Osei
Both times I visited, Albina and Osei took care of me and they were phenomenal.
Friendly, attentive, not overbearing, and genuinely welcoming.
During my first visit they forgot an egg in my order and immediately comped me an extra one when they brought it out. Simple, thoughtful customer service like that sticks with you.
4. The Food – Fresh, Hot, and Shockingly Affordable
Everything I tried was amazing:
• Suya – tender, juicy, perfectly seasoned.
And for only $10?! I truly expected $15–$20 for the amount I got. I thought about it for a week afterward.
• Eggs – cooked to absolute perfection.
• Okra stew with beef & pounded yam (my second visit) – so good I ordered it again to go.
• Kids meal tenders and fries – honestly I could’ve eaten her meal myself; that’s how good it was.
Everything came out fresh, hot, and well-seasoned. No bland food, no waiting forever, no disappointment.
5. Cleanliness, Music & Extra Perks
• The bathrooms were clean and easy to access (not always the case in restaurants).
• Music selection was perfect—nice vibe without overpowering conversation.
• They have a full bar, and almost every table had the same cocktail, so clearly the drinks are popular. I’ll be trying one on my next visit.
6. Overall Experience
I went in tired after work, just wanting to sit down and eat.
I walked out having had a whole experience—karaoke, great food, great service, relaxing vibes, and my child was fed and happy.
This restaurant checks every single box for me:
✔ Great food
✔ Generous portions
✔ Amazing customer service
✔ Kid-friendly menu
✔ Beautiful décor
✔ Clean bathrooms
✔ Fun, welcoming environment
✔ Affordable pricing
✔ Servers who make you feel comfortable and invited
This is officially my favorite West African restaurant in Frederick, and the one I will continue to patronize as long as the quality and service remain this good.
Albina and Osei deserve a huge spotlight.
