– FOOD: In order of how much I liked the dish: The duck bao ($19) was fantastic, probably one of the best baos I’be had. The oxtail ularthiyathu ($34) was great – an exceptional amount of oxtail for the price and just generally quite flavourful. The butter chicken ($29) was generally good and very creamy but missing a little oomph. Could’ve added a few more chicken pieces but increased the price. The fresh paneer ($24) was okay but also lacked oomph.

– DRINKS: The mocktail I had was pretty good.

– SERVICE: She checked on us very often and was very attentive, and walked us through the menu. Generally, great service.

– VIBE: Whoever designed the restaurant did a great job – it is very well done and pretty. While we went during a quieter night, I can imagine the atmosphere is very lively most nights.

– OTHER: They accept amex / American Express. I went here for my birthday dinner – they took 5 calendar days to respond to my initial request but didn’t force a fixed menu on my guests, which I appreciated.

Conclusion: I would visit again to try some of the other dishes. I truly wish the best for this restaurant, as we need more upscale Indian food (both in general and also in the city), especially since the city wasn’t ready for Katha.

Loved celebrating our anniversary dinner here! ❤️The food was fantastic — must-try dishes include the keema tacos, dal makhani, and butter chicken pizza on kulcha. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. Chef Sarath was kind enough to surprise us with an anniversary dessert — the Pull Me Cake, which was absolutely amazing! We also tried their cocktails — don’t miss the Mango Chile, it’s a winner. Definitely recommend this place! The staff is very helpful as well. This is a must try .

Loved our experience at Ek Bar and will be back! We tasted as much as we could fit in, as a party of two, and enjoyed every bite! The drink we ordered, Tamarind and Honey, was also exceptional. The atmosphere was cozy but also elevated like a lounge you’d go to in downtown Montreal. Would definitely recommend!

A great place for a date night! Parking wasn’t hard to find. The place has that polished feel to it, quite inviting. We had the Chai & Cutlet and Duck Bao to start. We thought these 2 made for a good combination, we liked the surprising elements! As for the mains, we had the Goan Shrimp and Lamb Shank with Garlic Naan as a side. These two curries were delightful, especially the lamb shank… very flavourful. For dessert, we had the Pull Me Up. It was quite good, not overly sweet, a good finish. Also worth the mention is the Mango & Chipotle cocktail, refreshing! The service in particular was dazzling, thanks to our server, Shayla, we quite enjoyed the experience 😉

Great new Indian fusion restaurant that every foodie should experience. Our server Meena was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The food was as delicious as it was beautiful. Well balanced cocktails. Warm atmosphere, great vibes. My favourites were the goat taco, duck bao, biryani, and shrimp curry.

Pros:
1. Food is out of this world – some of the best I’ve had in Ottawa. Each dish has been well thought of and has a well balanced flavor profile.
2. Ambiance – furniture and decor sets the mood and makes for a pleasant ambiance

Feedback:
1. Staff needs to be trained more – one of them couldn’t explain a dish and struggled with presenting the options.
2. We were served by two waitresses where one would take our order and another would come and ask us to order. For a high end restaurant, this is mildly embarrassing.
3. The cocktail recipes need to be improved – for the price, the quality was very lacking.

We had the absolute pleasure of dining at EK Bar Ottawa, the newest gem on Preston Street, and what an experience it was.

Ek Bar, which has beautifully taken over the space that once housed Vivaan and Katha, offers elevated Indian street food with a menu full of vibrant, whimsical small plates made for smapling and sharing.

The space itself is bright, modern, and inviting, simple yet thoughtfully decorated, creating the perfect atmosphere to enjoy such creative cuisine.

From the moment we arrived, the service was warm and welcoming. The cocktails were well crafted, and every single dish that came to the table was a burst of colour, flavour, and texture. There is no smoke and mirrors here, just pure, exciting, and delicious food that delivers on every level.

What made the evening even more special was that Head Chef Teegavarapu Sarath Mohan, the genius behind the menu and a familiar face from Vivaan & Katha, recognized us, came out of the kitchen to personally welcome us, and graciously walked us through the new concept. You can see and taste the pride and care in every single plate.

We also had the pleasure of meeting the new owner, restauranteur Hemant Bhagwani, whose vision is clearly adding something fresh and experimental to Ottawa’s Indian cuisine scene.

All in all, exceptional food, exceptional people, exceptional evening. We will definitely return.

Excellent service and food all round!
We had a fantastic dinner at EK Bar!
Our server was very polite and attentive. She knew the dishes well and was able to provide a lot of details and recommendations.
The food was outstanding. We tried a variety of dishes and each stood out from the others.
I especially enjoyed the duck Bao, but the butter chicken was the best I’ve had!
We will definitely be returning!

My wife and I went to Ek Bar for supper and were very happy with our meal. As a small plates place, we weren’t sure what to expect but we ordered 4 dishes and split dessert and it was more than enough food. Everything we ordered was delicious and had top notch presentation. The service was great (shout out to Shayla) and we loved the vibe of the restaurant. We will definitely be back
