i remember when i would get the volcano chicken fries after school in 2022 and it would cost $15.99 before tax and now they’re $26 before tax????? that price is outrageous it’s still the same amount of food for a much higher price, i understand inflation and taxes but i just think that’s crazy for 1 plate …. i loved this place and it’s unfortunate that the prices increased drastically i won’t be going back anytime soon.

I have been picking up dinner from Ekahi Grill in Gypsum about every month or two for about two years now. The food has always been good, the cashier at the front has been very friendly, and I enjoy supporting local businesses. For those reasons, I am very dissapointed to share that this business lacks any integrity and does not value their customers.

On February 4th, I ordered online as typical. I ordered a full plate and a half plate. I arrived at the pick up window. The cashier came over with my order: Holding the full plate in a styrofoam container on the bottom, with the a plastic container for the half plate on top and no bag. As the cashier handed it over the window, and I grabbed the styrofoam container on the bottom by both sides, the stryofoam container immediately collapsed inwards and one of the fish sticks in the plate fell out.

The cashier applogized and got tape to tape the top shut. He said do you need anything else and I picked up the fish stick from the ground to hand it to him for the trash. Then, I said asked if he could remake the fish stick and said I could come back in a few minutes to get it. He said to hold on and went and talked to somebody in the back, who I then learned was the Owner (I believe her name was Asia, or similar). He said that she said they would remake it, but I would have to pay $2 for the ‘extra’ fish stick. I explained that they handed me a defective, unproperly packed box and the fish stick fell out because the box was broken. Not after I left, but while I was being handed the food at the counter. He went and talked to her again and that the owner understands, but I still need to pay for the fish stick.

I asked to speak to the Owner and was told no, she would not speak with me. I then said that I will be leaving a poor review and never coming back. (and left without the fish stick)

For context, these are large fish sticks and four came with the food, so I lost 25% of the main part of the meal.

Long story short, I would never reccomend anyone visits this restaurant.

Before anything the guy at the counter was nice and attentive . As for the food though , i paid around $20 for a volcano lunch special , musubi and a drink . The special was a bed of white rice with a couple pieces of chicken with a little bit of sauce.. the portion was small and the chicken honestly had a weird color and bland flavor. The musubi was okay. There is no seating so you have to order and go. Personally i wouldnt visit this place again.

Ekahi should mean super Greedy in Hawaiian! $27 for 1 order fries, chicken & sauce is absolutely insane! A few months back I thought that $18 was expensive, now you up your prices and you’re stingy. Yes, the food is good but you’re skimping on almost all your ingredients, especially with your sauce that you charge $2 for a tiny side. You’re prices just keep on increasing and the portions keep getting smaller. Lunch plates have gone from 3pm to 1pm so now theres only a 2 hour window for the one thing that is affordable. Half the time you dont even have it on your website so you have to order in person. More than willing to charge for a drink but half the time the fountain drinks are empty. To top it off, Thoren is creepy and mean. You used to be great Ekahi, think about the people in your community and do better!

This is one of the most spectacular drop offs I’ve seen from a restaurant ever. Ekahi Grill was our yearly go-to for food when we visited Glenwood Springs.

This year we found the prices had increased substantially while food quality and portions dropped significantly. We ended up with a very bitter mac salad, mushy rice, and ver flat tasting food.

I really hope they can turn things around in time, but until then we are unlikely to return.

Price for dinner for five entrees: $161
Almost a very similar order, but with one additional entree from late 2024: $106

This pains me to write the review, but this has to be something the ownership becomes aware of before the damage is done.

Paid 50$ for two half plates, one beef, one fried chicken, a tiny side of GREEN Mac salad, one Musubi, and paid extra just for the sauces that it should come with. They came with mushy overcooked rice and both the meats were dry and cold as if they were cooked the day before and flavorless! I don’t know how this place has so many good reviews, if I could give zero stars, I would. Do not recommend, nothing about this place was comparable to other Hawaiian restaurants I’ve been to.

Man, what a bummer to see this place fall to the ground. I lived in the valley for 7 years and used to go to this place all the time. We moved back to Wisconsin two years ago. Just got back into town and figured I’d give this place a try again since we have loved it. I just paid $28 for fries and a small amount of chicken. Like what? It also had barely any sauce on it. If this place survives for another month I’ll be very surprised. Such a bummer!

I used to absolutely love this place and I’ve been going here for 7 years, but I honestly can’t anymore. The prices at this point are extortion for what it is. I remember a volcano fry with chicken plate used to be $16. $27 with tax and tip expected is wild for some fries and chicken. you can get 3 sushi rolls down the street for $20. go there.

Ordered a Katsu and Maui chicken. Neither can be discerned from the other. As there’s no markings, and one of them is missing sauce. Ekahi used to be good to go to. But now the portion sizes are terrible, even though the prices went up, and often there’s mistakes with the orders.

This place just got worse and worse. Until it’s just not worth it anymore. $22 before tax, for some fried chicken, small side of rice and a tiny salad, is ridiculous. And $11 for fries like this? No thanks. This is the last time coming in.

I grew up on Oahu and lived there for 22.5 years.. I have never had katsu that was so thin… And also why is the mac salad green??? Also … For $21. Dollars… For a regular plate… That’s a bit to expensive… Espically when the cutlet looks like someone went way overboard and smashed it so thin I wouldn’t even feed it to my dog.
Oh and WHY does the katsu sauce taste like it’s just low sodium soy sauce and barbecue sauce combined
