You have to try an egg roll at a place called the egg roll house. Piping hot, plump, but mostly cabbage as noted by other diners. Shanghai noodles one of their specialties; you pick the spice level. Medium was lip burning. Some of the included meats were dry. Had leftovers for 2 more days. My companion had chicken chop suey. Taste OK, lots of celery left on the plate. Egg foo Yung comes with 3 patties and a thick brown sauce. Other than my party, no other diners there always a bit wierd. Lots of carryout. Service friendly and appreciative. It’s a typical American style Chinese restaurant with an appeal to traditional diners.

We used to go here for the lunch buffet many years ago, and I was excited to add them to our dinner list. That excitement faded when we arrived. The restaurant is less than half the size it used to be, with an entrance that leaves much to be desired, and the buffet…gone. The decor used to be traditional Asian symbols and art in warm colors, but is now cold and sterile. Very disappointing change.

Our server was great. She was VERY friendly and eager to help. Our table of six was the only one the entire time we were there so service was fast.

The food has really taken a down turn. I ordered a BBQ Pork Egg Roll, and a couple others ordered the combo platter. There was nothing BBQ about the egg roll and the others said all the egg rolls they received were the same. Though I like the way they serve the rice and entre separate so you can build it yourself on your plate, the Sweet and Sour Chicken was not sweet. It was actually spicy.

This was definitely a disappointment.

Never have I ever been here before, ok . Friend told me about this place so I went online and picked out the usual for me and was told 15 minutes. Walked into a small but authentic restaurant that gave me the same vibes again that I had at 10 . Smell was amazing and the staff reminded me of my Nana. Price very reasonable, amount was great , egg roll was 10 outa 10 but the surprise was the sweet & sour chicken! OMG !!!! The breading on the chicken was amazing, the chunks of chicken were amazing the amount was amazing but the sweet & sour sauce is the star ⭐️ can’t explain it but I wanted more of it …… it was that good. To die for !!! The staff is amazing also . Highly suggest you go if you like the old fashioned type of Asian American style foods. Enjoy

The Egg Roll House — A Strip Mall Surprise That Serves Up Nostalgia and Knockout Flavor

Nestled in a modest strip mall, The Egg Roll House is the kind of hidden gem that surprises you in the best way possible. I walked in with tempered expectations and left with a taste memory that reached decades into the past.

From the moment I arrived, Wendy made me feel welcome, asking where I’d like to sit before handing me the menu. She casually asked what kind of egg rolls I wanted—because they’re made fresh on the spot. I couldn’t decide, so I tried both shrimp and chicken. Absolute perfection. Crispy, flavorful, and paired with a sweet and sour sauce that struck a flawless balance. The hot mustard? Old-school, sinus-clearing goodness—the kind of fiery kick that’s hard to find these days.

Then came the sweet and sour pork—and with it, a blast from my childhood. I’ve spent years searching for the version I had as a kid at a tiny restaurant in Waukegan, Illinois. Nothing ever came close… until this. Crunchy on the outside, tender and savory on the inside, this pork dish brought me right back to that cherished flavor. While I did miss the classic pineapple, tomato, and onion medley, the dish was still unforgettable.

If you’re anywhere near West Allis, do yourself a favor—seek out The Egg Roll House. Eat, savor, and tell Wendy that Julie says hi. You won’t regret it.

Like two years ago I asked Wendy what her favorite thing was and she said without missing a beat “salt and pepper chicken”. I’ve gotten it every time since and it’s always delicious.
Give Egg Roll House a try, give the salt and pepper chicken a try, and ask the folks there what they recommend. Everyone there is so sweet, I love this place.

The pot stickers were too thick and less than a teaspoon of filling. I thought they would be steamed but they were over fried. The egg foo Yung was bland with only salad shrimp that had the poop track still inside as the picture shows. Was very disappointed especially still they remodeled.

The food is delicious! Clean modern decor and friendly waitstaff. (Somebody should delete all the old photos and videos on this listing because the restaurant was completely rebuilt and remodeled recently.)

Egg Roll House has been in business for a really long time and I used to go there a lot in their old location. I really hesitated to share this poor of a review because I’m sure they work hard but when I found the luncheon plate of the orange chicken nearly inedible I thought I should share with others. I should have known when it was served up within 4-5 minutes of ordering that it wouldn’t be that great. The quality reminded me of Panda Express tbh. The pricing was under $10.
