At Effy’s Café, we’ve been part of the neighborhood for over two decades – one of the few kosher restaurants in Yorkville that still cooks everything from scratch, every day. You’ll find us on quiet York Avenue, near Carl Schurz Park and the East River Esplanade, where regulars eat on the patio, sip coffee, and relax over all-day brunch. Our meatless menu hasn’t changed – fresh fish, vegetarian plates, and Mediterranean food that always feels like home.

Many people recommended this place to me, and I finally got a chance to come today. The servers were very nice and friendly.

I had a “Taste of Tel Aviv” to start the meal. It was slightly sweet and minty. Very refreshing. It was very good!

I also got a babaganoush with pita and fish and chips. Both items weren’t on the menu, but upon request. They do have it, but just not on their current menu.

The babaganoush was very nice. It had a minor charred flavor, and balanced between sweetness and savoriness. The pita was slightly crisp on the outside, but soft on the inside. It was very nice.

The fig and chips were nice, but just average nice. It came with 5 small pieces of cod fillets and French fries. The fish was fresh, and the batter was light and crispy. It came with lime and not lemon, but it was nice.

Overall, it was a nice spot for a quick bite. They serve breakfast all day long!!!

Effy’s has the most delicious crispy breaded French fries, lattes, and pesto grilled cheese. This is the perfect affordable place to grab brunch in Yorkville, although sometimes there is a bit of a wait for a table.

Came here because I saw it’s kosher and had great reviews — and I’m really glad I did. The staff was super friendly, and despite other reviews mentioning long wait times, my food came out quickly, even with a private event happening by the bar. The service was still impressively fast, PJ was amazing!

The food was very fresh and flavorful — exactly how it should be. It’s been a while since I found a kosher spot, so I’m happy I discovered this one, they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is big, with lots of great options. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Food is so fresh and always delicious! It honestly feels healthy which is rare to find in a brunch restaurant. Atmosphere and vibes are A+ — the staff is super sweet, and it’s not too loud for a conversation 🙂 Prices are also very reasonable for the quality of the food (also rare in the UES).

don’t go to this place if you don’t want to get scammed, there’s better food for half the price at the bodega next door. 13 dollars for a “new york bagel” with one sliver of salmon and philadelphia store bought cream cheese. bagel tastes store bought too. the waiters and waitresses are very kind but this place is a scam, also made us wait 30 minutes for a table even after we called and asked if they had free tables and they told us yes.

I think of Effy’s as my “local” – a place to go for warm service, delicious food and a sense of peace. From the great mural painted on the wall to the smiling waitress, I feel and cozy and recognized. the Israeli style food is spiced perfectly and tastes fresh. I especially recommend the portabello mushroom vegan burger and the green or red shakshuka. The prices are modest and the portions are large. Ask for the amazing French fries.

We came here for brunch. Coffee was good. Overall, food was good. Servers were somewhat disconnected from customers, taking their time to return to the tables. Perhaps because they were too busy. The interior decor is clean and inviting. They had a few tables outside for those wanting to dine outdoors.

Overall the food and service was very good. The grilled fish sandwich, vegan shawarma wrap and veggie omelet were great. Side salad was light and it was just the right amount of food for lunch. The spicy fish sandwich was a little bland-the breading needed a little more seasoning.
