Tucked away in the heart of Laurel, Edgar’s Steakhouse serves up a classic Southern steakhouse experience with a few elevated surprises. On a recent visit, I had the chance to sample a bit of what this local favorite has to offer, and while there were a few minor missteps, the overall experience was satisfying.

I started with the sautéed crab claws, a promising appetizer that showcased fresh Gulf flavor. The claws were generously portioned and sautéed with a bold hand. While the taste was there, a few of the claws were a bit on the tough side, and the dish leaned a little heavy on the onion—just enough to slightly overwhelm the delicate sweetness of the crab. A touch more balance could’ve taken this dish from good to great.

For the entrée, I went with the ribeye burger, paired with steak fries. Simply put, the burger was a highlight. Cooked to absolute perfection, it was juicy, flavorful, and had a wonderfully rich beefiness. The real star here, though, was the bacon jam—sweet, smoky, and just the right amount of indulgent. It added a depth of flavor that elevated the whole bite.

The steak fries, while hearty and crisp, weren’t quite my style. They were thick-cut and golden, but seemed to have stayed in the fryer a bit too long, making them overly crunchy on the outside and edging toward dry inside. That said, fry lovers who enjoy a serious crunch might feel differently.

Final verdict: Edgar’s delivers on its promise of quality meats and hearty Southern flavors. With a few tweaks—particularly in balancing flavors and fine-tuning texture—this could be one of Laurel’s best-kept secrets. The burger alone is worth coming back for.

We traveled 120 miles to eat dinner with our daughter. This restaurant was definitely worth the trip. The atmosphere was cozy. The service (Jenny) was awesome. She helped us decide on what to try. The food was outstanding. I had the Eggplant Ellouise (best I have ever eaten). My husband and daughter had the ribeye burger with home cut fries. They ate every bit of it! We had the Charcuterie Board which was very good. My favorite part of the entire meal was the homemade hot bacon vinaigrette. I could have drank it from the bottle it was that good. We will definitely be back!

We enjoyed our dinner at Edgar’s Steakhouse in a recent weekend trip to Laurel. The ambiance leaves something to be desired, so really I wasn’t expecting much from the food. However, the food surpassed my expectations and was a delicious meal overall. My girlfriend’s filet (not pictured) was really good, as was the fried green tomatoes appetizer with shrimp, though I do wish they doubled the amount of tomatoes they give you. Even though we were both stuffed from dinner, all their desserts sounded good so we chose two of them instead of splitting one, and I’m glad we did. Both desserts were excellent! I can’t say I’ll ever be back to Laurel on a trip, but if I do I will definitely eat at Edgar’s again.

We were here for the weekend and I must say that this was the best food that I tasted on the whole trip. The drinks were great. Our waitress was new, but she was awesome. This lady showed us where the entrance was & then told us we won’t be disappointed. To ourselves we were saying you would say that because you are a local but she was absolutely correct! I highly recommend anyone passing through to stop by this place and give it a try. If you live in the town & haven’t tried them out, then what are you waiting for? Now I’m the one saying you won’t be disappointed

What an amazing place, a step back in time. A time when life was simple, food was good, and waitstaff was great! Leanna is a treasure! The food was super, steaks were perfect, truffle fries are a must. Thanks for the great experience.

The place seems dry.. food is okay, All the menus are not the same, which was frustrating for me, The desserts were absolutely delicious. But overall it seems overpriced by the way the truffle fries just seemed an oily mess… Was not impressed..

Oysters are one of my favorite foods and that’s what I came for. I started off w half charbroiled & half raw. The charbroiled oysters were okay. They were a good size and texture, but I strongly dislike cheese on oysters so I wouldn’t order the charbroiled oysters again. The raw oysters were better to me, so I ordered another 6. (there was a crab in one of my oysters which is commonly found in oysters and mussels, I just left that one alone lol) I think the average person would enjoy both the charbroiled and raw oysters a lot more than I did, simply because this is one of my favorite items so my expectations are very high. I also ordered the friend green tomato stack & this was my fav! It looked so good, that I forgot to take a pic until I was half way done. It came w a mini salad on the bottom, amazing shrimp, and a comeback sauce. The shrimp was seasoned perfectly, a very nice addition to the stack. The service was amazing, felt very personable. It was only one other family when I came in but it was about four when I left. The lighting is dark but not too dark to where you can’t see. I would recommend & return. I feel like it’s only right I go back to try the steak.
