The crazy panhandlefoodie
So it’s been some time since I’ve been back to any Edgar’s Bakery my previous experiences just not that great. This location was different because of the service. Rachel helped me and she was very pleasant. I ordered the handheld croissant ham egg and cheese and it was really good. I do wish the egg was seasoned with salt and not scrambled overhard but that could be my preference. Other than that great breakfast sandwich. But don’t take my word for it come try for yourself. Edgars is easy to get to and lots of extra parking. Staff is always friendly and helpful. They have the drink stations behind the registers (not self-serve) so that can slow things down. Lots of seating, even for groups, and good outdoor seating if weather isn’t too cold. Had a bacon, egg, cheese croissant which needed more salt believe it or not. Blueberry muffin was just okay. I was not overwhelmed by the food but it was fine and vibe was upbeat.

I’ve tried Edgar’s a few times now for eat-in dining. The bakery is very nice but the dining experience leaves much to be desired. The atmosphere in the one in Madison is like a bus station. You are eating in a shop and it feels that way. The menu is interesting but the food is un-special and overpriced for what it is. My last experience was taking my niece for a light lunch. She ordered a soup/sandwich combo but wanted to add ham to the grilled cheese sandwich on the offer. This seemed a difficult request. After some back and forth with the kitchen and with little explanation, the clerk said, “We will have to ring this up differently but we can do it.” Actually what they did was sell us two meals for my niece – twice as much at twice the cost. She was left one extra meal to take away. Not a substitution (and charge on that) but another entirely separate meal. Not good at all and not clearly explained except for a larger bill than expected. So for bakery … great. For dining … I won’t be bothering again.

Awesome location. Sara at the counter is super sweet. I enjoyed the food. Mac and cheese was a bit bland. But I would definitely come back. I love all of the natural light and the overall atmosphere. Food was fresh. It was $18 for my meal and I’d usually be complaining about the price right now but… I think I’d pay that again. Chicken was a tad chewy and dry but only on my very last 2 bites. 🙂 The rest of the sandwich tastes fresh and juicy.

UPDATE…11/18/23: I have to drop my rating from a 5 to a 3. I went in to have breakfast and there was hair in the middle of my omelet. The manager on duty was nonchalant about it and asked if I wanted them to make me another one. There were no hair nets in the kitchen. I declined the remake. An online survey was completed based on the in store interaction, I can say we received a call from their higher headquarters within two hours which was a shock especially for a Saturday. The customer service from that end was great. Unfortunately, the level of customer service in the store was not the same so I will not be returning.

11/10/23: I ordered breakfast online, the meal was ready at the time it was projected to be ready. This was my first interaction with this location, and in the past, when I visited this chain, it was for their German Chocolate Cake. I was sleeping on the breakfast. I ordered the veggie breakfast bowl and added mushrooms. The portion size was huge for me, but I will finish it up tomorrow. I typically do not like my food mixed together, but the combination of elements used in this dish paired well together. I also ordered the French Toast with fruit and bacon. I did not get a picture of that dish, but the entire meal was consumed by the intended recipient without any negative feedback, so I will call that a success. Based on my experience today, I would definitely return to try other items on the menu.

It almost pains me to write this because I’m an Edgar’s fan and have been for 20 yrs. I stopped by the Madison location to pick up a Bday cake for my wife. I picked out a delicious buttercream (My wife’s favorite) and paid. The young man then began to box up my cake. I asked: “can you write Happy Birthday on it for me please?” To which he replied “we have no one hear to write on the cake.” That’s fine. Staffing issues happen. But…he should have informed me of that issue prior to me paying and given me the choice. I would’ve politely declined and driven to Providence. Just a suggestion going forward.

Used to really like Edgars as a more “local” panera with better food, but my last and final visit left a lot to be desired and will not be returning. No line at lunch time should have been a key….I waited to order with no one in front of me…..no greeting as if I interrupted a conversation. Order experience poor and not welcoming, food was bad- rubbery omelet, greasy potatoes dripping in oil rather than crispy and worst of all, all the tables are dirty. 4 of the tables have plates not picked up and the other half have a film/crumbs on them not cleaned. If management doesn’t care, then I don’t care to eat here again.

Place was immaculately clean… the desserts are to die for (cinnamon rolls for me)… and Kaitlyn was superb in helping introduce me to all the goodies once she knew it was my first time… come give them a try, then a good review, then give my review a like if you don’t mind

I was thoroughly pleased with the quality of the food and the exceptional service I received. The coffee, in particular, was delightful. If you have not yet had the opportunity to visit this establishment, I highly recommend it. You will find that the service is of the highest quality and the prices are quite reasonable.

This place is very close to my job so I visit somewhat regularly. Those macaroons they have are DELICIOUS. The hazelnut is my favorite. Oh and the thumbprint kinda cookies are also delicious. They’ve also just been really kind which makes my work days better.
