I really wanted the good quality cake this place is known for but that wasn’t the case.
I looked at the slice case and there was so many well cut slices yet the one flavor I wanted they had 2 slices that looked like they cut it with a pair of thrift store dentures. Both slices were hacked up. I Asked if they had anymore because they looked really bad and they said no. I asked was there any pricing adjustment they said no.
After debating against my better judgement purchased the better looking of the two because already made the trip. Sadly it was dry and not enjoyable.
The employees excuse was “the new person cut it”. But there should be a standard and slices that looked bad shouldn’t be sold or shouldn’t be sold at full price. But I guess the new person over baked the cake as well.
The oatmeal cookie was half decent so I guess there’s that.
Update.
Called as requested and he literally had me repeat my review and told me have a love say and hung up. Not sure how that made it right just confirms the low grade experience and poor customer service.

This was my first experience at Edgar’s in Homewood. Kris was so helpful and accommodating. I had made an online order but got the date wrong. She went ahead and filled my order with a smile. I plan to go back when I have more time!

Terrible experience all around: servers have no idea what they’re doing, tables are left dirty and no one came to clean them after we asked TWICE, and the croissant I ordered went directly to trash.
Never going back there again.

I LOVE Edgar’s. I’ve been going to multiple Edgar’s locations for years. The one in Homewood is close to where I work, so I come in for lunch occasionally. I have to say at this location, customer service is so hit or miss. Today, after a procedure I had to fast for, I came in for a late lunch around 2pm. I told the cashier what I would like and she laughed at me, and said “Yeah, ok”. She then proceeded to sigh and walk to the kitchen and say “you have an order” like it was something to be annoyed about. Then, she proceeded to act annoyed throughout the rest of my order, and walked away as soon as I tapped my debit card. I didn’t exactly see what was wrong about ordering lunch at 2pm, considering they’re open until 6pm…so it’s not like the kitchen was closed or was about to close… Overall, I just felt like a nuisance to her/the kitchen staff.

I was at the Homewood store..I ordered 2 heart cakes and 4 cupcakes. The employee appeared annoyed when I asked for the cupcakes to be packaged separate. Snatching of the packaging was uncalled for..she noticed that I picked up on the attitude but it was too late. I truly feel my business is unwanted..I will not be returning and anyone asking me about Edgar, Homewood.. I will give my true experience.

On Wednesday, August 27th, my husband and daughter bought a chocolate cheesecake from Edgars in Homewood for my birthday. Sadly, we had to throw it away—it tasted absolutely awful, like sour milk. When my husband told me he had paid $45 for it, I almost fainted! He paid for the location instead of flavor or quality. Highly disappointed.
This wasn’t my first disappointing experience there. I’ve been with friends to have coffee, and instead of serving it in ceramic cups like any proper coffee shop, they serve it in cardboard cups. Even so, we sat down to chat and enjoy our coffee, but because the place was about to close, we were asked to leave.
Between the unfriendly service, poor presentation, and overpriced food, I can honestly say this place is highly disappointing.

This was one of the most frustrating dining experiences I’ve ever had. I attempted to order a breakfast sandwich and was told that only ciabatta bread was available. After payment was taken, I was then informed that ciabatta bread was actually the only thing they were out of…. which should have been communicated before checkout. When I asked to order croissants, the cashier was unaware that croissants were even offered/sold. When we tried to order a latte, the cashier didn’t even know how to use the espresso machine….
I would compare the dining experience to that of a hospital cafeteria.
The food took an excessive amount of time to be prepared, the staff was not friendly or helpful, and the food itself was very poor in quality.
Come for the baked goods and avoid everything else.

I got the strawberry flavor rose ombré cake in purple for my daughter 20th birthday and it was gorgeous as well as delicious . Cake was moist and just right in all the ways of not being too sweet or dry .

Edgar’s is THE place to get fresh baked goods, sweets, or a great lunch. This location didn’t disappoint (every location is great). Staff is incredible, food portions are great, and taste is phenomenal. Must have if you are in the neighborhood and worth the trip if you aren’t. We will definitely be back for more.

Edgar’s Bakery on 2713 18th Street South saved my nieces wedding day. The cake made by someone else unfortunately had no support and started to fall apart. The cake could not be displayed or in pictures. We made a decision to try to locate another cake. We drove to and called several stores and bakeries to no avail. Before giving up my daughter made a call to Edgar’s. She immediately said, mom they were actually nice (the other bakeries we called were rude) then she said mom the lady said they may have something that will work. We made it there and unfortunately there were no all white cakes but there was a lot of strawberry cakes, chocolate, and other flavors. Still nothing that we thought we could add flowers to and make it match her wedding colors. One of the young ladies at the counter went to get the manager and also I believe the Baker/decorator. We told her what happened and showed some of the pictures. It was so close to closing time so I would’ve totally understood if there was nothing that could be done. She asked me to wait so she can make a few phone calls to see if there’s anything that she could do to help or offer any advice. After she made a couple of phone calls and no one answered, she finally said you know, I can help. She asked for a little time and she came from the back with a beautiful a two tier cake. It was perfect. She also noticed on the cake that was ruined that my niece wanted a textured icing so she went the extra super Duper mile and textured the icing on the cake she made for us. We also purchased a chocolate cake for the grooms cake because it was also ruined. The kindness and support that the staff at this bakery provided us in the mist of a complete disaster was beautiful and heart warming. They could’ve easily said not our cake, not our problem plus it’s almost closing time but no, we were offered a solution and comfort. I am back in Dallas,TX now and I can’t stop telling everyone about our wonderful blessed experience. I am so sorry that I cannot remember the name of the wonderful lady that made the cake but she knows who she is and I really hope she shares her wonderfulness with everyone in the Edgar’s Bakery family and in Birmingham, Alabama.
FYI, Edgar’s did NOT make the cake that fell. Edgar’s kindly made the perfect cake that replaced it.
