Some highlights are the pork curry, the amazing eggplant gratin, kurobuta sausages/pork belly, croissant pudding, and the delicious mocktails! Also very friendly, humble, yet informative staff. I visited from out of state and I’m still thinking about this place a week later. Don’t hesitate!
Highlights of the meal:
• Tamago sushi : perfectly sweet, fluffy, and balanced. One of the best versions I’ve tried.
• Grilled calamari : tender, lightly charred, and full of flavor. Definitely recommend.
• Matcha tiramisu :light, not overly sweet, with a true matcha flavor. The berries on top complemented it perfectly.
Overall, a fantastic dining experience and a place I’d absolutely return to.
Atmosphere – Decent. It’s clean which in today’s day and age is very much appreciated. It’s small overall with a small bar area, a small “counter” area, and an ok seating area. I wouldn’t say ideal for large crowds or children under 5. The sushi bar is in the open, which is nice.
Service – This is their best attribute. Everyone there was super friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable on the menu. Our server was fantastic explaining the regular menu as well as the special menu they had at the time. The bartender was great and prompt with our drinks. The service was definitely top notch.
Food quality and presentation – This is where we felt… a little short changed. We got the edamame and the pork belly as starters. Edamame is.. well edamame. Hard to mess that up. I will say the pork belly was fantastic. Being an appetizer, not very large or filling, but taste wise it was arguably the best dish we had. For entrees we got 2 sushi rolls, which if im being honest I can’t recall what they were, and then their special “dipping ramen”. The dipping ramen was different, and a little odd at first, but it grew on us. Id say overall it was pretty good. Now the sushi… what they are “known for” and top 10 in Texas. It was meh. I don’t remember what rolls we got because they weren’t very “wow”. They were good, don’t get me wrong, but you can get better sushi for half the cost elsewhere. We finished with a sake flight which was fun, but sake is sake.
Price – This is where the 4 stars comes in. For just the 2 of us we dropped over $150 for “meh” sushi and small portions. This place is definitely the definition of “great looking food, in small portions, for a lot of money”. I’m sure there are people that will disagree with me, but as stated earlier we can get better sushi for more than half the cost elsewhere.
Overall – We enjoyed the place, but honestly probably won’t be back. If we are dropping that much on dinner we are going to Haywire.
