Social Profile:

It all started when a young bodybuilder from China had a dream. That dream? To move to America and open a bar where people could eat drink and be merry. That mans name? Hung. The Eastern Pearl was opened in 1989. Since then it has seen some changes, both good and not so great. But it is now a new era. Hung retired and sold the buisness to Alex Bond. A fun and clever restraunt and bar entrepreneur in the Portland area. From the first day Alex walked in he saw the potential this building had. So in the early days of 2019 Alex could now carry on that dream and turn this back into an amazing place to met people, have a nice strong drink, and to eat some really amazing food.

Chinese classics served in an unpretentious roadside setting with a bar, plus late-night hours.

On a sorry stretch of SW Canyon Rd with nothing but car dealerships as far as the eye can see, the Pearl definitely fills a communal void. It’s nothing magical, but it’s got better than average food for a bar, with the interesting menu getting an Asian twist (my faves are the Potstickers and/or Gojujang Pork Belly) plus there’s video poker, karaoke, pool, and solid bartenders in a weirdly laid out space. It looks like there are three sections; one area that’s laid out like a restaurant, with tables and chairs; the middle lounge area with the bar/counter and more tables; and a lower area with pool table and a bunch of TVs. There are TVs scattered all around actually but it doesn’t really feel like a sports bar (and there are video games along one wall of course). Somehow this mashup works, and feels pretty dang homey, making for a decent spot to hang out with your friends and neighbors. Oh, and also: the Vietnamese Fried Chicken is very good. So yeah, the food here deserves another mention.
Parking in the free lot attached, but fills up quickly on weekends.

This is the place you want to be if you want good food in a cozy place with good service, good music, and completely fair and reasonable prices. (Remember the concept of value, people? It’s alive and well here.)

This place has history, it has your neighbors, it has an eclectic menu where anyone can be happy, and it has smiles from bartenders and comfortable seating.

Honestly, stalwarts like Eastern Pearl are becoming more and more popular because people are tired of being fleeced by their new strip mall restaurants where servers are cranky, the food is mediocre, and prices are absurdly high.

Want to experience what still makes Portland fun and chill?

Go to Eastern Pearl. You’ll be happy you did.

This place is awesome! Great atmosphere, delicious food, friendly and attentive staff, and great happy hour prices! You get a lot of food for the money – portion size is large and appreciated. There is tons of seating and space to move around. They have pool, ping-pong and shuffleboard! I will definitely be back!

Went here on a Friday evening and spent the time in bar area. One thing I noticed was though it was busy but not crowded, everyone could find a place to sit. But what i noticed was how loud it was in there! One would have to shout to person next to you to maybe be heard ! And the noise was just bar noise. There was not a band playing or music playing just people talking and laughing. So their acoustic atmosphere should be looked over if one wants to actually talk and be understood in the bar area.
My friend and I ordered dinner to eat in the bar. I was surprised to see the lack of Asian food on their menu, I had assumed from the name of restaurant it would be mostly Asian food but there was just a few dishes and rest typical American dishes like burgers, wrap sandwiches, and such. The bartenders were a bit too casually dressed to be attending bar and customers. They wore street clothes which one bar tender wore old faded jeans, a ill fitting tank top that had a small hole in it and old dirty tennis shoes. She also wore no name tag so couldnt see any difference in her vs a patron when she was out from bar. All in all if I was coming here for a good dinner and planned on conversating with someone I would be disappointed. But if I returned , to be able to have a snack and play video poker for a bit then I guess this would be an ok place to do that.

The Pearl just delivers the goods every time. Super fun restaurant, amazing food, welcoming staff and the overall value is hard to match in Portland. See you again soon!

I come here every week for karaoke. Food menu isn’t typical bar fair but it’s outstanding. Bartenders are generous with their pours.
Attendees are always super friendly and willing to chat on a whim.

We went on a Wednesday night, it was slow, but better than being home. The drinks were flowing, nice and strong! Shoutout to the bartender and waitress, she played both hats and did a demand great job! The food was good as well, they nailed the Asian fusion on the money. I left feeling satisfied. I will be returning, check it for yourself.

A Kung Fu-themed restaurant! The food, the fun…this place is a total badass!! We tried the pork belly, the fish tacos, the fried chicken, and beef bulgogi…fantastic flavors. The pork belly was a little over cooked but the flavor was still amazing. We’ll be back for karaoke and bingo! They also have table tennis! Swoon!
