Social Profile:

It all started when a young bodybuilder from China had a dream. That dream? To move to America and open a bar where people could eat drink and be merry. That mans name? Hung. The Eastern Pearl was opened in 1989. Since then it has seen some changes, both good and not so great. But it is now a new era. Hung retired and sold the buisness to Alex Bond. A fun and clever restraunt and bar entrepreneur in the Portland area. From the first day Alex walked in he saw the potential this building had. So in the early days of 2019 Alex could now carry on that dream and turn this back into an amazing place to met people, have a nice strong drink, and to eat some really amazing food.

Chinese classics served in an unpretentious roadside setting with a bar, plus late-night hours.

A Kung Fu-themed restaurant! The food, the fun…this place is a total badass!! We tried the pork belly, the fish tacos, the fried chicken, and beef bulgogi…fantastic flavors. The pork belly was a little over cooked but the flavor was still amazing. We’ll be back for karaoke and bingo! They also have table tennis! Swoon!

We went on a Wednesday night, it was slow, but better than being home. The drinks were flowing, nice and strong! Shoutout to the bartender and waitress, she played both hats and did a demand great job! The food was good as well, they nailed the Asian fusion on the money. I left feeling satisfied. I will be returning, check it for yourself.

We have been coming here off and on for years. Have loved seeing the new changes. Noticed a breakfast menu on the door, so we came in yesterday for breakfast. Sadly not impressed, food was not hot, gravy on biscuits was bland. Mimosa’s 8.25 and bloody mary’s 10.00. a bit steep for a neighborhood bar. We go out to breakfast quite often and were shocked with those prices. Even asked the bartender if that was a mistake, maybe missing the Sunday special button. Nope no Sunday mimosa or bloody mary specials. Bummer because we like this place.

The kareoke DJ does a great job at keeping the party going with all types of diverse genres of music. The food is really good! I really enjoy the seared Ahi Tuna and salad. The new owner has made that place so much classier yet social. All of the customer service people are amazing. The only suggestion is to install a jukebox where the customers can play music they like too.

We ordered food here and it was so hot and spicy and way over seasoned and the flavors didn’t even go together. It was end of the night I felt like they just threw it together. I will not order food here again only order drinks stay away from the food. The sandwhich we got was terrible I took it to go and threw it away such a waste of money. I don’t know even if this was asain food more like the cook was trying to cook asain food for the first time serioulsy. The Mac salad was gross too it was like they bought ressers Mac salad from safeway and tried to mock it up. I would of liked it if they kept it ressers Mac salad.

What’s not to like? It is a dive bar – but with incredible food and drinks. Food a Portland foodie would love wrapped in an approachable non-pretentious bar. Great staff and did I mention amazing food. I have tried all 6 flavors of Tacos. Yes Tacos. Lots of Asian-Fusion items on the menu.

I love ahi salads, but unfortunately this was bland and it did NOT have wasabi as it should have, nor did it have pickled ginger or cilantro! The dressing was plain ranch (no wasabi) and another one that possibly had very mild ginger but zero zing!!! I suspect it was prepackaged salad with ahi and cucumber on it. I lived in SE Asia for 4 years so I was expecting better Asian food. Blah!!! The husband (and I) liked the spam fried rice so we will likely return.
