Our first time tonight! We celebrated with family that came into town. LET ME TELL you this authentic amazing steak house Is the real deal! The bacon wrapped filet was the best I have had. Not only this but the appetizer on point. Service was excellent,
The story this place tells on the walls is legendary. The desserts were amazing the bread pudding my fav! I’m old Fashion and love some amazing home cooking. I’m
So sad it took me this long to enjoy! (No steak sauce needed). To the owner Gene I would love to sit down with you some time and hear your story’s. I love supporting local and learning about our great Country Texas HAHHAHA! Thanks for a fantastic evening you made our night. Much love!

We go to Dunston’s at least once a week and sit in the Back Room Bar. The food AND the people And the service is what makes it. Anne, Ethan, Diana are all fantastic and we love seeing owner Gene every night!!

The salad bar is excellent (not many places have salad bars any more), the filet steaks are great as well as the sides…. the nightly specials are fantastic as well, like Sunday night pot roast, Thursday night chicken pot pie, or the barbecue ribs, and prime rib on the weekends… and the prices are so reasonable for everything you get!

We highly recommend for a “CHEERS” atmosphere in the back!!

If ur looking for a throwback steakhouse experience with decent steaks at a fair price then you should check out this smokey, low ceilinged, red high-backed joint. The little salad bar and the in-room blazing grill take me back for sure. I like that I get to hang onto the shaker w my martini to enjoy the full drink and I absolutely love their house made onion rings. Service is here and there, but helpful, and my steak was prepared on point. Nothing pretentious here, laid back and easy to have a conversation w the table.

This steak house is one of the most iconic steak restaurants of Texas. The service was fast (Thanks Steve), meat was very delicious, they cook the meat at wood fire so it has a special taste I can say. Atmosphere is amazing, salad bar is perfect. Don’t hesitate to visit this place, amazing reaturant! Definitely recommended!

We decided to try this restaurant for our anniversary after hearing some great things about it, but unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. My steak was easily the worst I’ve had in a long time — $27 for a piece that was thinner than a finger, completely lacking in flavor, and overcooked. I ended up needing A1 sauce just to make it edible. The mashed potatoes were bland and unappetizing, and my husband’s steak wasn’t much better. His sweet potato wasn’t even warm when it arrived. For a $90 meal, we expected so much more. Sadly, we won’t be coming back.

Dunston’s has its charm in Dallas but it isn’t the best spot for dinner. Unfortunately, the food is very below average and somehow overpriced. The steaks taste of water and some grease. The drinks scene is therefore better than the dining experience

We left so full! Great price! Restaurant feels cozy and old Dallas/Old Las Vegas strip like…We didn’t get the pot pie on Thursday but saw it and will be trying that next time. We tried 3 desserts, recommend Key Lime or Cobbler. For one of our sides we got a bowl at the salad bar and it was full of fresh ingredients! The entire family went home happy!

We were recommend Dunston’s and ate there on 29.12.25. It was my last meal out before flying back home. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the food and service. From being seated to ordering, it took 35 minutes. Additionally our waiter forgot bread twice (we received it after ordering). Once we ordered the food was very quick but my steak was cooked wrong and had to be sent back twice. I imagine it’s because cooking a filet medium could be difficult considering the thickness. We were treated to 20% off the filet to make up for this, but generally didn’t feel the staff really acknowledged how neglected we were.

I think it was maybe an unexpectedly busy night or that there were some staffing issues, and having worked in the service industry, you have all my empathy!

I’m writing this review not because I don’t think you should go to Dunston’s – I think it’s worth a try considering how recommended it came (and the other guests liked their meals)! I’m writing it because I think feedback is important. We also still tipped 20% as mistakes can happen.

Hope everyone has a good start to the new year!

Megan was so sweet and attentive! She was the best part of our meal. All of the other staff were very friendly as well. We ordered our New York Strips to each be medium. Somehow they all came out medium-rare, and yet still pretty tough. Mashed potatoes were just warm, not hot. Everything was lacking salt, but I imagine this is to cater to an older clientele. Salad bar is fresh and well stocked.

First time at this place and one aspect of previous reviews was very right.

The service was very nice. I sat back by the bar and the bartenders were very nice.
The place is old school. Carpet isn’t as clean as I would have hoped and barstools and chairs are lopsided, like the one I was sitting in. It reminded me of a larger VFW with more tables for eating.
In terms of quality in food, pros and cons. The back door dip is very good. I ordered a tbone steak with sides. It looked glorious, however, like mentioned many times on these reviews, the meat had absolutely no flavor. Literally none. It didn’t even taste like meat. Just meh. I had to salt my steak, which I have never had to do at a steakhouse in my entire life.
I wanted to try the salad bar, but upon checking, it was a total mess. Containers all next to each other with random items people have spilled into them from loaded up their plates. It just didn’t look sanitary at all. Not appealing.
Prices are reasonable. I got 3 cocktails and an appetizer and a tbone steak with 2 sides for $92 bucks, but that steak wasn’t worth $5. I wanted to send it back, but I figured if it came out like that, it would be the norm. So I picked around it and ate as much as I could. Thank god for the sides.

Overall, it was a little bit of a let down. I just expected a little more from a well known place that people apparently flock to. I would consider it more at lunch place than anything.

Clientele is true to form, old school. It was either families with kids or people over 50/60/70 who come to get hammered. The ladies by me were totally drunk, as were the group of retired men around me.

I would come back for a lunch and try those options, but there are many other places for a higher quality steak in Dallas than this place.
