We ordered five dishes. The bone marrow steak was perfectly cooked, but not quite worth the price. The albacore was enjoyable. The cornbread had a perfectly crispy outer crust( definitely get it). The stew was solid, and the tortillas were a true showstopper. The chicken pâté was yummy. The date pudding though? 11/10. Easily the best part of the meal. Would come back just for that.
I just had a couple issues last night. A guest and I told our server multiple times that we had severe allergies to pine nuts and peanuts. We ordered the swordfish and requested pine nuts on the side. Since the restaurant usually has overwhelmingly loud blaring music, I don’t think our server heard us each time we tried mentioning it. When the dish came out, my party had noticed it and it was too late. Had an allergic reaction and we were unable to eat the swordfish. We told one of the other servers, but nothing happened. A little disappointing since I was looking forward to trying it. Another issue was being seated, although we had booked this almost a month in advance with a request for a booth. I believe we got seated nearly 45min after our reservation time. I checking in 20min before our reservation as well. It was okay, since it was a busy Sunday evening. But had to go in multiple times to double check.
Not my favorite meal at Dunsmoor, but still an overall good meal in general.
The space is warm and rustic. The service is friendly and approachable. The food is astonishing. The staples that you should skip are the baby albacore tuna, the dressed lettuces, the cornbread (best you’ll have anywhere) and the highlight – the green chile stew fresh tortillas.
I dream of the cornbread and the green chile stew. In fact, I just made another reservation while writing this.
You won’t have a bad experience. While they are wine only, you can go to The Grant on the opposite corner and have cocktails before or after.
Dunsmoor is special.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dunsmoor – near Eagle Rock, Los Angeles
Dunsmoor has been on my list for a long time, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We made our reservation one month in advance, which I highly recommend.
Street parking is available, and they also offer valet.
Starters
EDNA’S SOUR MILK CORNBREAD – One of the best cornbreads I’ve ever had. Moist, buttery, and melts in your mouth. A must-order.
Chopped Chicken Liver – Rich, thick, and flavorful, served with sourdough toast. Tasty, but became a bit monotonous by the end despite the small portion.
Warm Medjool Dates – Simple, nutty, and perfectly executed. Surprisingly my favorite dish of the night.
Mains ️
Cider-Glazed Bandera Quail (Small Portion) – Moist and beautifully roasted. While the apple sauce felt dry and almost bottled, the rosemary and black pepper were expertly infused into the meat. Superb overall.
Mushroom-Crusted Pork Chop – Cooked perfectly, but our portion was too fatty for our taste.
Sides
Dressed Lettuces – Shockingly delicious. A simple salad done extremely right.
Service & Ambiance ✨
Service was impeccable all night — plates changed seamlessly, drinks refilled promptly, and staff remained warm and attentive throughout.
The restaurant is small and cozy, which I loved. It creates an intimate dining experience that feels thoughtful and relaxed.
Overall
A refined yet comforting dining experience with standout dishes and excellent service. Dunsmoor absolutely deserves its reputation.
Prices can be up there… Between two people we spent about 270 before tip and round 310 after.
Overall, would recommend to those that haven’t tried but as someone who looked to try unique dishes I’d need to see new items before coming back but would love to see them.
