(Warning! What follows is a PDR: a Personal Disappointment Rant, but don’t worry I remain a loyal DD Fan!) I’m Old School, addicted to the Classics, esp my Fav: a crisp classic DD cruller, plain. It is perfection in its simplicity … made for dunking! (Get it? DUNKIN’?!)
Anyway, some genius decided people confused this perfect NE gem: a regular, flavor-full, plain DD cruller with its cousin, the “lighter-than-air” wavy-shaped French Cruller (Glazed), tasting only of sugar/flour, sugar/egg, sugar/sugar & disappears in 2 lady-like bites.
The “cure” for this so-called confusion?
Well, the DD-HQ :Igeniuses took my beloved club-shaped serving of DD batter, fried to crispy perfection with its uniquely delicious nutmeg-y flavor & they renamed it Stick (or Stix? or STYX?) ?!?!
“I’ll have a medium regular coffee … & let me have a plain Stick with that!”
Surprise surprise, you’ll find the Sticks (Plain) have pretty much disappeared from the display case.
As will I, too, someday, replaced by something lighter, blonder, curvier & MUCH much sweeter … and, it’s FRENCH!
Still, I faithfully bring in my young granddaughters who are thrilled by the sight of all that fluffy, pink “strawberry” frosting, bedazzled with multi-colored pastel sprinkles, all of this floating like a glistening, pink cloud (a crown?) atop the perfectly neutral-tasting donut, most of which remains behind as crumbs, which I dutifully gather up and toss away in the DD bin as we leave.
