Fantastic & enthusiastic service by Liam & Ellie.
Will be adding to our guest recommendations.
Terrific
5*
Our server had clearly just started and while it is understandable that they were finding their feet, it sometimes felt as though this was offered as an excuse for the lapses in service. The food was a disappointment. Portions were tiny for the prices charged. The half lobster arrived nearly cold, the so-called caviar dish was little more than a few fish eggs with no accompaniments, and the octopus hotdog struggled to impress with a bun that tasted like it had been bought yesterday.
Even though we finished our meals quickly, no one came to check on us or clear the table for twenty minutes. Eventually we decided to leave with our half bottle of wine and were told that the waitress had just joined the team, as though this revelation might make the situation better.
Perhaps it was an unlucky night, but with the cold room, the underwhelming food, and the faltering service, it was hard to see it as mere coincidence…
The service started slowly — we waited around 25 minutes for a glass of wine and a rum with apple juice. We had ordered olives, caviar and two oysters, which arrived about 10 minutes after the drinks.
I’d ordered a 10g tin of caviar but was initially served just a bump. After flagging it, a tin was brought, but we then had to ask separately for the fat chips and crème fraîche that should accompany it.
We were initially told the mussel crumpet wasn’t available, then about 20 minutes later told it could be done as they’d “moved things about.” When it arrived the portion was quite small (around five mussels) and it unfortunately lacked flavour.
Our mains and sides arrived roughly 25 minutes later. The carrots were quite burnt and amounted to about two carrots in total. The skate wing was overly salty, the steak sauce was cold, and the steak itself was also cold by the time it reached the table.
Probably tried 5% of each main dish and called the waiter to ask for bill as our night had been ruined and just wanted out of the restaurant bill was given with a % off but everything on we had on the bill and said to the waiter i was happy to pay for what i ate fully and he was understanding. Not good for someone who preaches about how much it cost to run a restaurant when they cant get the basics right.
I’m sharing this because I genuinely like what you do and had high expectations for the restaurant. Hopefully the feedback is useful
Being right next to the water we thought the fish would be super fresh and and the food would be good and worth the price. Although the food looks very nice, this place is way too expensive. Tax and service charges added almost £40 to our bill. This was after we saw the prices and only ordered a few things just to share and try.
We tried the lobster rolls, they were okay. We tried the croquettes, they looked pretty but everything lacked flavour. The plates were very small and quite flavourless.
We also had the Cullen skink dish. Tasted just good, not amazing.
The staff on the other hand were amazing. Super attentive and friendly and brought everything out very quick!
Overall this place is just okay.
There was supposed to be an offer for fish and chips but we were charged the full price.
Would not recommend unless you’re happy paying meal prices for a small snack.
I ordered fish and chips, while my husband chose the northern cod with pork cheek on risotto. The dishes were well presented but, unfortunately, the taste did not live up to expectations. The lukewarm risotto was watery and completely lacking in flavour, the pork cheek was dry and the cod was the nicest part of that dish. The portion was also very small for its £32 price tag.
The fish and chips offered better value: my fish was hot and the flavour reasonable, although the chips were a little overdone. This dish was £23.
The servers were pleasant throughout, but the loud music in the bar made conversation difficult. We ate and left as soon as possible.
Overall, a very disappointing experience for a £76 spend (including drinks).
My wife and I sat at the bar for about 3 hours before other family joined. Kyle, was entertaining and a great bartender. Make sure you ask for some “off menu” cocktails that are in his head. He made this Bourbon tea concoction that is absolutely dangerous, and inspiring. Kyle won an award at a cocktail competition for this one. I had a few of those. I have also never had a clear ( almost clear ) Espresso Martini before. Another surprise: they make a gin caviar. Seriously, so good.
Along with the spicy margarita, and 30 some oysters and a couple of lobster rolls. We had an amazing time. Andy in the kitchen and Grace on the floor were wonderful as well.
We are in St Andrews for 5 days, and I guarantee we will be rolling through a few more time.
If you are a limited time in town, go here.
