This place is exactly what you expect from a burger shack literally in the sand.
The burgers are great, wrapped in paper, and just the amount of flat top grease you expect from a smash burger.
The fries are shoestring and tasty.
I haven’t tried their hot dogs, but the folks in my group that have said it was great hot dog.
All in all, the place is great for what it is, and a perfect late lunch spot.

We arrived to OBX before our house was ready, so we decided find a place for lunch. We decided to try Dune Burger. The burgers were delicious along with the onion rings. When we went, there was a sign stating no shakes. The parking lot is small. They have plenty of picnic tables to enjoy your meal.

Updating from one star to five! Service and food were much better second time around. Good choice for fast casual dining. Hot dog was juicy but the burger was a little dry. Overall it was great for the price point.

For one people have said this place is great undoubtedly you’ve never had a real burger. This place serves frozen patties that tastes horrible if I could have given a zero, I would have the only thing descent from this place was the fries. The rest was just BAD!!!!

Our servers were very friendly. The toppings on my burger were good but I was 50/50 on the patty. The onion rings were fantastic. Only order to-go only. The picnic tables had umbrellas but at high noon, there’s only so much cover you’ll be lucky to have. The nearby sea birds kept us highly entertained.

Like others have said, some reviews had me questioning if this spot was worth the stop. Only one way to really know. Ordered the double dune, dune, and dune burger with cheese. All burgers came with a couple veggies, and really generous patties. Onion rings and fries were likely best eaten fresh. Good flavor but not well traveled back to the house.
I had no issues with the speed or service, stopped by at 1 and there were a few people in line. Probably waited 10 min. The burger was exactly what you would expect from a burger stand. It’s not a smash burger, just a patty with some (actually really fresh) toppings.
Certainly would return for another burger. Could it have been a better burger? Sure, but I left pretty happy, checks a lot of the boxes.

By chance I found a check written out to Dune burger for $700 in the Dune burger parking lot. I took the check right up to the window and some drugged out looking guy with his shirt off standing in the parking lot started yelling at me to give him the check. I did with any reasonable person would do, ignore the druggy and gave the check to the girl in the Dune Burger order window. But then druggie guy started yelling at the girl taking orders and went up to her and snatched the check out of her hands. The girl seem to look like this was an everyday occurrence and at this point I realized crazy guy was probably the owner or manager at Dune Burger. The man said “get out of here we are closed now!” He aggressively moved closer to yell at me as if he was going to fight me! The girl shut the order window in my face and refused to even look at me. ….I found them a $700 check and returned it to them and this is how they treat me. I could’ve tore it up or thrown it in the garbage or not even picked it up. Many people out there would try to cash it! You would think they be happy that somebody honest found their check and returned it to them before somebody dishonest found it! Something really is wrong with this place and they should probably be investigated.
