Reviews
Wonderfully attentive and friendly service, warm and ambient seating areas, all setting up a genuinely lovely dinner and drinks that couldnt have gone better for us.
The staff were super, making sure that the available offerings were clear to us before ordering, as well as providing suggestions based on taste, and there was never any feeling of being rushed or incohestive choices being put forward.
The wine was sublime, portions generous and super tasty, particularly the fish cake with bisque, cod, and the potatoes on the side were a winner for mopping up the sensational liquid we had left in abundance!
Looking forward to visiting again on our next trip to Leith. Highly recommended.
However, on arrival we were seated at a pre-set table that was quite narrow. One member of our family found it uncomfortable to sit there due to their size, so we politely asked if we could move to another table. The restaurant was not busy at the time, but we were told that the tablecloth for the seafood boil had already been prepared on that table, so moving wasn’t possible. As a result, our family member had to sit at the very end of the table, which was awkward and not particularly comfortable.
The platter itself included two crab halves, mussels, prawns, sweetcorn, green beans and a very large amount of baby potatoes. While everything was well cooked and the seasoning was enjoyable, the balance felt heavily weighted towards the potatoes and vegetables, with a relatively small proportion of premium seafood for the price point.
At £39 per person in Leith, I would have expected a higher ratio of crab and prawns to fillers. Overall, it’s a sociable and messy dining concept that’s great if you’re after the experience — but in terms of value for money and guest comfort, it didn’t quite match expectations.
I was looking for sea food boil at this brand restaurant, however only this Dulse location offered it (had to dash from west-end to here). Also it is not immediately available, and you should call and order in advance. Probably due to availability.
Now onto food. The starters were really bad value for money. Imagine a single octopus tentacle for 14 quid. Having in mind that 1/3 of it was charred to a crisp, was completely unedible, the rest, around 7 centimeters long and around 0.7 cm wide is just ridiculous at that price. Having visited quite a few countries this was the single worst presentation of octopus in my life. Although the taste (all 7 centimeters of the edible part) was not bad.
5 olives for 4 quid, 6 small pieces of bread for another 5 or 6 quid. Really bad value for money.
Main meal: the lobster was very good . The seafood boil however was not on par to what I’ve tasted in Vegas or some random crab shack in Georgia. Taste is more bland than usual, but not too bad. Unfortunatelly most of the seafood boil is potatoes in this restaurant. We added 2 portions of langustines, but that was not enough to balance out the potatoes. For £40 per person for seafood boil only (and additional £6pp for langustines) I expected more seafood, as I have been served in other restaurants for a lower price. No scallops and crab meat brittle and stuck to the shell (maybe overcooked or not ice treated after boil). Oh yeah. Service charge is added to the bill, then tips are suggested on top in the cardreader.
Overal 3/5. Not great, not terrible, but bad value for money
The stew is served to your table and then upturned and dumped on your table . Let the fun begin .
The stew contained crabs , mussels , large prawns , potatoes , corn on the cob , spicy thick sliced sausages . We also added languostines and lobster . If you like eating seafood with your fingers you will love this . Forgot to mention we also had oysters to start . Finished off the evening with a light dessert and some cocktails . A great evening , made better with amazing staff .
The menu is very similar to it’s West end counterpart and the dishes were easily on par.
We had oysters (fresh and fried), scallops, octopus and mussels.
Will def look to return again.
