Overall, this is a solid spot for seafood with good food, good service, and a great view.

We started with appetizers and they did not disappoint. The crab dip was rich and flavorful, the bacon-wrapped scallop was perfectly cooked and indulgent, and the calamari was crispy and well-seasoned. Highly recommend ordering the triple chowder if you’re undecided. It’s a fun way to try everything, and the lobster chowder was easily my favorite with its creamy, comforting depth.

For mains, the salmon pasta was excellent and definitely a standout. It was creamy, well-balanced, and satisfying. Unfortunately, the chef’s special macadamia-crusted fish missed the mark. It was quite bland, and the macadamia crust didn’t complement the fish well, making it the weakest dish of the meal.

Service was attentive and friendly throughout, and the view really elevates the dining experience, making it a pleasant place to linger. I’d absolutely come back, just knowing which dishes to prioritize next time.

Duke’s never disappoints!! Although the chowders have changed a bit over the years, the ambiance and level of service has remained consistent. If you ate there years ago, you can be assured it will be relatively the same when you return! Very friendly hostess, smiles and welcomes when we arrived for a late lunch, early dinner on a weekday. We were sat right away at the perfect window seat where we even got to enjoy a fireboat show! First things first, the chowder! I’ve always ordered the chowder sampler (think they used to have 4) and this time was no different! Three completely unique and different chowders with my favorite being the Lobster, a bit sweet, super thick and very rich! The Crabby Deviled Egg was perfection, could have eaten half a dozen of them, with a creamy filling and just the right amount of crab. Since it was lunch hubby and I shared an entree, the Parmesan Crusted Halibut. Our server offered to split the plate for us which was nice and worked out perfect. Some restaurants charge for that, Duke’s did not! The halibut was nice and firm, the sauce was drinkably delicious and there were just the right amount of capers. Quite expensive for a lunch but as with everything in life, you get what you pay for and sometimes you have to pay for the perfection of Duke’s!

If being well-fed and genuinely cared for were an Olympic sport, Duke’s Chowder House in Tacoma would be taking home the gold.

From the moment we walked in, the service was outstanding — the hostess, our waiters, and even the manager checked in to make sure we were happy, comfortable, and thoroughly enjoying ourselves. Not in an overwhelming way… just the perfect “we’ve got you” kind of way.

Now let’s talk food. The lobster roll? Delicious. The halibut? Cooked perfectly. The seafood chowder? So good it deserves its own fan club. And the carrot cake for dessert was the kind of ending that makes you pause, smile, and question why you don’t eat carrot cake more often.

Amazing service, incredible food, and an experience that made us feel truly taken care of. I’ll absolutely be back — probably for more chowder (and yes, more cake). Highly recommend Duke’s.

Amazing place to grab some dinner along the shoreline! First time here and it did not disappoint! Staff were super friendly and full of recommendations! We shared the filet off the hot sheet and the stuffed halibut off the regular menu! Both delicious! We enjoyed a Caesar salad and a chowder + a Hiyo Social Tonic! All while admiring the bay! We will be back! Thank you for a great evening!

Our food was so good, and it was such a joy to experience the variety of flavors. My grandson is still talking about his seafood chowder. Our server Jessie G was so gracious and effortlessly met our every need. Can’t wait to go back. The Dreamy Parmesan Halibut was excellent. Lilly loved her burger and fries when we got home with her to go bag. Fri sauce is scrumptious.

Lovely waterfront seafood place with famous chowder and fresh fish!

The service is amazing, great food and wine selection too. You really cant beat the view wether you are sitting inside or have good enough weather to sit outside. If you’re lucky, you can catch a good amount of the aquatic life while you eat and enjoy watching sea planes or sailboats come through!

I had the salmon breadstick, and it was delicious! If you’re looking for a great view, get a seat next to the window during fall and winter, or enjoy the outdoor seating during spring and summer.
Professional customer service that doesn’t make you feel rushed.

Amazing food… with prices to match.

Make sure to try the “silky salmon”, their classic chowder, and a brookie. Each of them was best I’ve had of that kind of dish. All of our dishes were satisfactory, but the silky salmon was heavenly. Best $200 I’ve spent on food for three in a long time.

Our server was Joanna Z and she helpfully suggested we try the chowder, which we otherwise wouldn’tve gotten.

Aug 2025 update:
Stopped by on a Thursday afternoon around 2pm and were seated at a table inside looking over the waterfront. Started with the Maple bacon seafood bites appetizer which was quite tasty and served hot in a delicious sauce. The fish and chips were served hot and crispy but the breaded fish was a bit lacking in flavor – the fries were tasty and the cole slaw was fresh. The two Rockfish Tacos were quite filling leading me to wish that I had only ordered one. The taco shells were deep-fried crispy and tasty. For desert, ordered the Carefully Selected Local Ice Cream which was very rich, tasty and creamy; however, we should have split one order (two scoops) rather than taking one order each which was a bit much.
Although pricey, the food served at Dukes is fresh, tasty and delicious. We will be back.

Stopped by on a Thursday afternoon around 2pm and fortunately we were able to sit outdoors looking over the waterfront. Started with the Sensational Wild Salmon Bites appetizer which was quite tasty and served hot with a delicious spicy dipping sauce. The Heirloom Masa Dusted Calamari was served hot and was crispy and also tasty. The fish and chips were delicious and served hot and crispy. The highlight dish was the Scintillating Cilantro Lime Wild Salmon & Prawn Salad – Salmon was not served hot but was tasty and the prawns were also quite nice. This salad was very fresh with a lot of very tasty elements.
Although a bit pricey, the food served at Dukes is fresh, tasty and delicious and having lunch overlooking the waterfront makes the experience even better. We will be back.
