Victorian tavern with a casual bar & upscale dining room pairing American eats with historic charm.

Overall had a good experience. We had a party of 7 and everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was good, food was delicious, and the building is unique with a lot of history. Only complaint is the prices seemed a bit high for the portion sizes, but we all agreed we would return.

I’ve been to Duffy’s several times over the past 25 years. Within the past year, though, I’ve only stopped for drinks and apps. Most recently, we sat in the bar and enjoyed a couple drinks. My wife had a crème brûlée martini and I had a White Russian. Both were strong but very good! The vibe in the bar was a mix of cool, historical hangout and total dive bar. I sort of like it. We will definitely stop back from time to time and probably grab a full meal at some point.

A friend mentioned this place to me while we were enjoying dinner elsewhere. Work assisted by sending me to the area for some training, and I made it a point to head here for dinner.
I loved the historical nature of the place and enjoyed looking around.
The waitress was friendly and accommodating.
The food was slow in coming. I originally ordered the halibut, but they were out, so I switched to the sirloin. The steak came out rare when I ordered it medium, so I sent it back. It came back a little closer to my liking, but not quite, and hunger won out. The steak was good.
Overall it was a good dining experience and I recommend people to try it the good food and especially the historical nature. Best to call ahead for a reservation

On New Year’s Eve my sister and I came in around 4:30 for a mid day reuben in honor of our father who had passed in 2025 – it was his favorite sandwich, and even though he would say Duffy’s was ‘too expensive’ (frugal guy, still miss him so much, he always would bring me down for free popcorn when I was a kid). I knew that Duffy’s was gonna be our best bet to get the most amazing sandwich to honor him. Once we were sat, I clocked that they had printed up special entrees only NYE menus, and when our server (whose name I didn’t get, I’m so sorry) rounded by, I let her know we may have made a grave mistake and explained our intentions for being there that evening. She said, hang on one minute, we just switched to the special menu, let me talk to the kitchen. The kitchen OKed our order and we got to have what my sister describes as easily one of the top ten reubens of her life (I don’t carry a ranking, but it’s really, really good). Haven’t had much else off the menu but our server and the rest of the staff that was working that night really made it a special evening for us, and it was so so appreciated.

We used to love going here. Whether for our anniversary or just Saturday lunch. We stopped by lately and it is not the same. It seems to be more of a disappointment lately. Food was well.. ok. Service was not the best even though it was 3pm. Refills we had to ask for and what kind of restaurant makes you ask for salt and pepper because they dont keep it on the table. Its sad to see this come from one of our favorite places to go. Considering we drive a hour to get there. Even the wings were so great before covid but year after year it seems to cost more but taste worst. 22 dollars for bad wings is not ok. The atmosphere is awesome. Please fix this.

The atmosphere of this place is very nice. However it is definitely a place that does some things well and others not so much. It was over priced for the quality of food but that’s state college for you. If you like crispy wings this isn’t really the place for you. They were ok but not crispy and the sauce tasted like some store bought hot sauce. My wife liked her filet mignon and my mom liked the crab cakes but neither one of them liked the sides of brussel sprouts. Service was also a little slow and they weren’t busy. Don’t think I’d personally come back unless the price came down to match the quality of food, even then it’s a tough sell.

Enthusiastic and nice but a little fast, had to ask for plates for a shared appetizer.
The atmosphere could be much better if they would use all the potentials of the nice old building. I would definitely not use those harsh white LED light bulbs in the otherwise sweet old lamps and chandeliers. They just don’t fit with the charm. Nice warm candle on the table and neon like white lights around us. Just not cozy as it should be.

Fabulously preserved old house that evokes an older age – the hardwoods, the decor, the walls windows and furnishings are all older. Fireplaces heat the room. For those who don’t like that, don’t come – but it’s certainly comfortable and well maintained. Menu is higher end new American. Lots of choices. My duck was perfect. The grilled items were all a touch overdone, the dryness of the chicken on the Gnocchi (which was very rich otherwise) and pork chop did detract from the dish a bit. I didn’t find the wine list an issue like other reviewers – they had some excellent diverse choices, if slightly overpriced. Service was excellent. Friendly helpful and prompt. Only 3-4 miles from downtown state college.

Really disappointed to have to leave this review as I have frequented Duffy’s several times and have always spoken highly of it to others. Last Saturday, my fiancé and I dined here for Small Business Saturday as we traditionally do. We waited over 40 minutes for appetizers (there were only a handful of other tables). During this time, our waitress offered no apology, no explanation, and did not check up on us. One of the dipping sauce holders for our app had a sizable crack in it, which, according to heath code standards, is a violation as it can cause food born illness. I pointed this out to our waitress, who 1. Did not seem aware of this regulation, and 2. Did not seem to care enough to pull said dish out of rotation.
For my entree, I had ordered the garden salad without the customary goat cheese. As our waitress was setting down the salad, I immediately noticed the cheese and asked for it to be corrected. A few minutes later, she brought back THE SAME SALAD (photos). The kitchen made a half-a$$ effort to pick off the crumbled cheese, instead of making a new one. At this point, I had bit my tongue long enough and asked to speak to the manager on staff. We waited over 15 minutes to speak to him. Only for our waitress to tell us he was bartending and would not be able to come see us. She even expressed annoyance on his part that he was “bothered”. The salad remained untouched and when I brought it to the attention of our waitress, she agreed that it was pure “laziness” (her word” on the kitchen’s part. I also addressed my other concerns with her since no one of authority would speak to us. Imagine my shock when the bill was brought to us and the salad that was made incorrectly twice (and mishandled) and untouched was still on the tab. I had to ASK for it to be comped. The only resolve I was given that day was a business card for the owner. I was advised to send her an email with my concerns. I did just that, had to wait over 4-5 days to hear a response, and only got a condescending, brief, dismissive message in return. I am angry, disappointed, and will never visit this establishment again. It is clear the owner & staff take very little pride in their work.
