If you found this place, do yourself a favor and stop on in. It’s brand new with an authentic retro northernwoods cabin feel right out of the 1950s. The wait staff has incredible uniforms, so much so we had to grab our own from the gift shop!
The wait staff was super friendly and welcoming. The food was incredible. We had the smoked trout dip to start off and it was the best I have ever had and I’ve had a lot but by far this was the best. Big chunks of fish and incredible flavor.
The double cheeseburger was great. The 12 oz bone in pork chop was amazing and I had Brussels sprouts but these were amazing. Lightly baked with incredible flavor.
The cookie in the cast iron pan with the ice cream was more than enough for three dudes.
We will be coming back for sure for the food and the friendly staff!
Even the manager Hannah came out to say high and we grabbed a photo with the friendly wait staff!
The inside of the place looks great but the atmosphere is a bit of a head-scratcher. It’s part log cabin steakhouse, part outdoor enthusiast’s, fly fishing theme , and part sports bar. The staff uniforms are horrible and don’t seem to match any of the above?? Each time I’ve been there the TV at the bar is playing a football game, that’s a repeat from 5-6 years ago even when it was an actual NFL playoff game day?? The chairs at the bar are uncomfortable and a complete miss for eating at the bar. A lot of this leaves the restaurant’s true ‘theme’ a mystery to me. I know it should be about the food, but really it’s about the customer experience, and all of this takes away from that before you get to the food.
We have gone and tried the burgers, wings, trout dip, prime rib, and a few other items. I thought when they originally opened they had fried chicken dinner special but we have never found that?
I’ve tried both the standard double cheeseburger and the bison burger. Unfortunately, neither lived up to the ‘best in town’ potential. Both were dominated by an oversized bun that completely overwhelmed the meat; you’re mostly eating bread rather than the burger itself, it was nothing special. As for the side salad, the blue cheese dressing was consistently thin and watered-down. If you aren’t a fan of bitter spring mixes (radicchio and red leaf), I should have remembered this from my first visit because I hate that spring mix, I suggest skipping the greens here.
Trout dip. The trout dip is really good and well thought out, but still a little bit of a head scratcher. It is served with Ritz crackers? Just google Ritz crackers and see why they’re banned in many other countries! Serve them with chips, small toasted garlic chips, or a million other things would be better than Ritz crackers with this dip.
I was so excited to see prime rib on the menu, (only Friday nights) especially since the Club Tavern in town has changed hands and wrecked the size cut and flavor of their prime rib! The prime rib is cut great it’s thick, like more than an inch thick, and looks delicious! The whipped twice baked potatoes that come with it are pretty good. They need a little more flavor and may be a little bit larger portion. Again, It comes with a salad with watered down blue cheese dressing. The prime rib looked perfect. It was actually a little dry and not soft and hard to cut. So disappointing, I don’t know if they’re finishing it in a microwave, or they’re cooking it to rare and not getting to that point where the prime rib marbling really gets soft and lets the steak release it’s juices . I was not there late in the day so I didn’t get the last piece of prime rib. I probably got one of the first pieces of the day. and it just wasn’t soft, juicy and flavorful like prime rib should be.
Against my better judgement , I am going to go back and give them one more try and I’m gonna get the prime rib just to see if maybe it was a one time thing. But overall, myself and the people that I have gone with have been underwhelmed by the food and the overall experience.
The food was, without a doubt, a highlight. We sampled a wide variety of dishes including the Breakfast Sando, F&S Dip Duo, Farm Egg (sunny side up), Fried Chicken Sandwich (Nashville Hot), Fruit Bowl, Granola & Yogurt, Omelette with Onion and Spinach, and the Smoked Trout Dip. Every dish was delicious, but the Smoked Trout Dip and the Fried Chicken Sandwich – Nashville Hot were absolute standouts, bursting with flavor and perfectly prepared.
Regarding the beverages, the coffee selection was generally good, with the Cappuccino, Mocha, and Drip Coffee all being satisfactory. However, the Cortado was a notable exception, being quite good. Unfortunately, the Hot Chocolate was disappointing and we wouldn’t recommend it.
Overall, despite a minor hiccup with the hot chocolate, the excellent food and exceptional service made this a memorable and highly recommended dining spot for groups looking for a flexible and delicious meal.
WOW! So glad we went in anyway. The atmosphere is so detail oriented. It’s nostalgic, yet clean and just plain cool.
They followed up their good looks with delicious food. All 4 meals we had were tasty and filling! The only thing thay beat both atmosphere and food was the service! Incredibly attentive, funny yet professional staff.
Check out the lodge when you go – this place is going to be a new favorite!
