Lots of seating here, all the staff were friendly, and the venue is fully decked out with ship themed decorations everywhere, looks like a mix of maybe some actual antiques plus lots of comical fun decorations 🙂
The choice of food was excellent, with outstanding presentation and rich, well-balanced flavours across the dishes we ordered. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared and delivered a real sense of quality and care.
Service was a little slow at times, however it was a very busy night and completely understandable given the occasion and the demand.
Overall, the atmosphere, food quality, and experience more than made up for it. We would highly recommend the Drunken Admiral to anyone looking for a special dining experience in Hobart, particularly for celebrations or a memorable night out.
The atmosphere at The Drunken Admiral is undeniably appealing. The décor, filled with pirate, sailor, and ship-themed items, creates a fun and immersive setting. Unfortunately, that is where the positives end.
When it came to food and service, the experience was extremely disappointing—especially considering we spent nearly $200. We waited over 45 minutes for our meals to arrive, which already set a poor tone for the evening.
The prawn spaghetti and grilled seafood skewers had virtually no flavour at all. I have had countless marinara-style pastas, but this one was served cold and completely bland. The seafood skewers arrived on a hot plate, but instead of being appetising, they smelled strongly of burnt oil. The fish and scallops were flavourless and poorly executed.
Overall, the experience did not match the price, reputation, or expectations created by the restaurant’s reviews. A great atmosphere cannot compensate for weak food quality and long wait times. Unfortunately, this visit was a major letdown.
We were immediately greeted and shown to our table and the menu explained.
Waitress came back to take our order and our drinks and food arrived quite quickly.
I ordered the king dory and it was just delicious. Al white flesh and tasty.
My partner got the chowder and it was also delicious. Our table also ordered schnitzel and salt and pepper squid. Was all great.
Great night out with great food and service.
The portion sizes are ginormous but still a good quality. I loved the seafood chowder but it was the bread accompaniment that made it so special – so light & fluffy.
Interesting decor inside as it is filled with nautical kitsch items.
Food is excellent. Full of flavour. Service staff is attentive & helpful. Unique interior decor. Water provided.
Going to miss this place as we are flying back tomorrow. Will visit again if chance ever comes.
The restaurant has good decoration with ship / seafarer theme, but the tables / booths are placed very close to each other. The noises are quite high and it is quite hard to have good conversation with your dining party. Customer service are reasonable, but don’t expect much considering the busy environment. Prices on the menu are premium, but still reasonable considering premium location and ingredients used. You can pay with all credit cards, but pay additional 1.5% surcharge.
