Three words: You. Must. Try.

I’m a big fan of the hole in the wall pizza joint. Every now again I entertain the occasional artisan style pizza. I would consider Driftwood Oven a specialty pizza joint that could easily become my go-to spot.

What sets Driftwood Oven apart is their crust. It is a sourdough style crust… wow. The crunch and texture is unique. It is light, airy, and has an earthy flavor that makes your eyes roll into the back of your head and forget how many slices you actually had.

We got a traditional pepperoni and cheese New York style. Driftwood Oven also offers square cuts that are a thicker crust. I will be back to try the square cuts! Driftwood Oven is also a bakery. We did not try any of the sweet treats but again, we will be back!

The atmosphere is fun. It is casual and laid back. The price of the pizza can be a little surprising when you compare it to your typical local joint, but remember this is an artisan style pizza with a one of a kind crust you won’t find ANYWHERE else in the Pittsburgh region. Give them a chance, it is worth all the hype!

We visited this location as part of the pizza passport. Beautiful interior. A little slow on the service. The pizza was very delicious though. I got the Bianca and I loved that we got fresh basil on the side that we could add on top of the pizza.

Awesome slice of pizza in Lawrenceville. Vegan options with a wholesome approach – no processed ingredients here!

Driftwood Oven has been on my radar for a while now due to their rave reviews and having a dedicated spot for a vegan option on their menu. In my quest to find the best plant based pizza in the burgh I decided to give it a go. I ordered the 16” vegan pizza to-go which featured a red sauce, onion, greens, mushrooms, garlic, and a house made vegan ranch.

Upon crossing the threshold into Driftwood Oven the very first thing that struck me was the smell. The restaurant radiates with the smell of fresh bread and great fresh ingredients. Think garlic-y, umami, richness. Honestly it just smells amazing in this place. If they could bottle the smell and sell it as a fragrance or a candle for my house I’d buy it! The restaurant is small but does have a dedicated dining room and the option for take out.

Couldn’t wait to dig into the pizza when I got home. The crust was amazing! I dare say I haven’t had a better one in the entire city. Most people don’t realize bread can and should have real flavor. This crust is flavorful, crispy but light, slightly chewy, and smells amazing. The red sauce is simple but packed with fresh and big tomato flavor. The veggies on the pizza were extremely fresh and well put together. The general theme I got was every aspect of this pizza was done with care and intention. The greens that were selected on the night of my experience were very bitter which I don’t usually mind but it overpowered the other ingredients and sauce.

The level of quality is very high and I deeply appreciate the attention to detail. There’s a lot of mediocre and even bad vegan pizza in the burgh but this place is one of the good ones!

If you’re in the area and have dietary restrictions or just prefer eating plant based I’d stop and give Driftwood Oven a try! It’s worth the stop!

Stopped by this quaint, fun pizza shop while out of town for our anniversary. Ordered a round, thin crust pizza with pepperoni, spicy sausage, and peppers. Hands down this pizza was the best I’ve ever eaten in my 45 yrs of life!!! The crust was chewy and had such great flavor. The toppings were just the right amount. Amazing flavor! We’ll be back!

On our last night in town, we decided to grab some pizza at Driftwood Oven. It was within walking distance of our Airbnb so we made our way over on a Sunday night and were seated right away.

We decided to start with an order of their meatballs, which were absolutely delicious and some of the best meatballs I have probably ever had in my life. Not an exaggeration.

We also shared a Bianca slice and a classic cheese slice to start, since we didn’t want to order multiple pizzas, but we were very curious about all of their options. Both slices were tasty and the crust had a good chew to it.

For our main pizza, we split the SMO classic style. Everything about the pizza was extremely well balanced from the sauce to the toppings and the seasonings to the crust. All in all, these are some tasty pizzas and this would definitely be my go-to spot if I lived in the area.

Stop #2 of my Pittsburgh Pizza Tour!
My friend was raving about this pizza, so I just had to see what the hype was all about… I ordered the classic cheese pizza, and it was really, really good from the first bite. My family absolutely loved it too!
The pizza was relatively small for the price, 8 cuts for $26… but sometimes, it’s just worth it.
The sourdough crust is so unique, tasty, thin & crispy, a little on the well done side and the sauce had some smokey undertones, and not as sweet as I’d like. I wished they would have added fresh basil to the pizza, but there’s always next time:)
I’ll definitely be back to try some others but it was a great pizza & in my top 10!

Meh. Pizza flavor was good, but I expected it to be hot since we waited for an hour; only to arrive and wait 10 more minutes. The pizza box was not hot to the touch. It was definitely sitting around because it was dry. It did not take us long to get home, so the pizza still should’ve had some warmth to it. For $30, it should be better. We asked for basil, and they were kind enough to throw some on the side for us free of charge.
The kale salad was not good. They just put big chunks of kale in a box. Kale need dressing on it for a little while to soften it. I understand why you put dressing on the side for lettuce based salads, but not for kale. The kale needs to be marinated in order for it to be appetizing. The dressing is thick, and I had to add vinegar to my kale. The box was so packed, I couldn’t toss it at home. If they tossed the kale in the caesar salad before putting it in the box; it would have been perfect by the time we are ready to eat it.

Expensive food should be better than this.

I know they’re known for their sourdough pizza, but their bakery options, though few, are pretty solid too!

I tried their seasonal flavor Croffin, Maple Cinnamon, and I enjoyed it more than I expected! Didn’t get maple flavor, but the cinnamon worked well with the crunchy outside and soft layers. It definitely is a croissant dough, with great layering, but the inside was a but raw and quite dense due to the muffin shape. The cream on top and in the middle was great too, quite sweet but worked well with it.

Wish it had a bit more maple flavor and at $6+, I think it’s a bit on the pricier side, but worth trying at least once!

We found Driftwood by a Google search, not knowing it was their opening weekend for dine in. The pizza and wine were amazing. Service was great. We got there about 530 and luckily sat down quick. Others had a short wait but I would guess well worth it. It was small but cozy. Would highly recommend!
