Social Profile:

Michoacán has been often called the Soul of Mexico. Its food is Mexico’s soul food as few other places in the country can claim such a profound and long-lasting indigenous influence on their regional cuisine. Peter and Teresa Valencia bring the rich flavors of the Michoacán state to down east Maine. Peter’s mother began making these flavorful foods in the 1950s. They use locally grown produce in their dishes when ever possible. Their spices and specialty items are imported from Mexico.

Amazing food, hands down the best Mexican spot I’ve had in Maine! I am so thankful to have spotted this place while working in the area. I live over an hour away & this food definitely is worth driving to from where I live! 10/10 recommend.

Authentic Mexican Soul Food! Absolutely delicious. My wife and I ate the vegetarian tacos and absolutely loved them. Downeast Mexican Takeout offers an extensive menu filled with plenty of favorites to choose from. The staff, hospital, and atmosphere are excellent! Outside you will find both picnic tables and a screened dining area where you can enjoy your meal. Looking forward to having dinner here as well and trying more items on the menu.

The place is super cute.

The menu is straight forward and I really like that.

We got chimichanga supreme meals, sopes and chips and salsa.

The supreme meals are supposed to come with beans and rice. But they only came with rice.

Also, the salsa isn’t actually salsa…it’s hot sauce. Maybe I’m being too technical but it’s just not what I expected when I paid for chips and salsa.

There are no pictures of the chimichangas because we devoured them! I got the sope for later, but the quick taste test I did…it’s really good.

Only reason for the 4 instead of 5 is the salsa…

Wonderful place with amazing food and service. We can’t all eat lobster rolls every meal and a local, family owned Mexican spot is a great way to break out the more commonly served cuisine. Generous portions and good prices too!

Best Mexican food north of Portland. Tastes like an abuela is pounding out the tortillas in the back when you order them. Super fresh! Great prices. Big fan.

This was an authentic Mexican food restaurant and it was in every bite the taste and the flavor. It was a rainy day and it provided the comfort. The portions were generous and satisfied the craving for real mexican food. The owner was very kind and this will a memorable place during this trip. The menu had several options that im sure will satisfy. I give it 10 stars, there are many Mexican restaurants but this is a gem.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. Place was not busy but had customers coming and going. Small inside eating area, outdoor picnic tables and a screened in gazebo dining room. Food was excellent and the portions were huge. Very happy with everything. There was a lot of singing and laughing coming from the kitchen , glad to see they have fun doing this because it shows in the final product ! Will absolutely stop again next time in the area.

A little side of the road take out place, with plenty of picnic tables to dine on. Found it to be a bit pricey for what whe ordered. Food had great flavor and was fresh. Asked for salsa , she said it came with it, butdidn’t, they ran out =(

Delicious and fresh, we loved everything we ordered. The food is a more rustic style and isn’t over salted like chain restaurants. A great little gem in Downeast Maine.
