A buddy and I went out day drinking for his birthday. We stopped at four well known local pubs in the area and Down the Hatch was by far our favorite.

Highly recommend the chicken shawarma and chef’s special nachos! Happy with their portion sizes. I wish the falafel tasted and looked more authentic though. Not crispy enough to my taste and the inside needs to be more cooked.

Hair was cooked into my veggie burger , I’m very nauseous. What in the world are y’all doing. Y’all don’t wear hair nets. This is straight hair, I have curly hair and my head is covered. This is very unsanitary.

We had the Alligator (sausage) po-boy and the cheese steak. The meat was really good, the bread, not so much. The bartender was GREAT and handled the bar like a champ! Nobody was in need of attention, Siva was great!

Most places in New Orleans are closed on Tuesdays. Down the Hatch is not only open but is a safe place to recover from an attempted robbery on the stairs of Landry’s Seafood restaurant on Decatur. The pours are generous and the burgers are fantastic. Miss Pat and the twins cook with love and you can taste it in every bite.

First the good parts about this spot. Good deal on pricing considering the area. This part of Magazine Street offers a slightly higher food and drink price options, Down the Hatch saves the day with something reasonable. The service is very friendly, attentive, and quick. The food also comes out pretty quick with a good presentation on their plating. The number one seller here will be their amazing patio. The patio is large, has an outdoor bar, multiple TV’s, heaters (or fans depending on the season), endearing kitsch lighting, and ample room for a larger group. I gave 4 stars because the food was nothing to write home about and the portions were a bit off (not nearly enough spinach dip for the amount of chips given for example). All in all, a good bar to take friends to sit outside and watch a game and chat for a while, food is okay to snack on, but wouldn’t consider this spot for an over the top impressive meal.
