Welcome to Doumar’s, where every day is Ice Cream Day!We create our own creamy shakes, ice cream sundaes and more just the way they were made when your grandparents were kids. As the home of the original waffle cone, we believe in creating great traditions and keeping them going. You’ll love our handmade waffle cones, rolled right in front of your eyes on the original four iron waffle machine, built in 1905. When the weather is nice, you can find a member of the Doumar family and the waffle machine parked right outside of the diner, so your family can watch the magic happen from the car.

Nothing better than Doumar’s.
Got a couple of hot dogs with mustard and onions. I love how they chop the onions so fine. It’s not just good food, the service and atmosphere lend to the experience. When I drove by I almost didn’t stop because the place was so busy, the parking lot was almost full. I decided to take a chance, went inside to order takeout. Even though they were full, I only waited a couple of minutes to get my food. It is a madhouse in there with everybody doing their part, making drinks, making dessert, plating the food, and taking the food to the cars. It’s exciting to see old fashion car hops with the trays that hang on the door.
Hot dogs are $2.40 each.

Always an amazing diner experience. Wife and I love the nostalgia. My wife’s parents had went on their first date here @ Doumars. The hot dogs and burgers are yummy. We got the limited time Pumpkin Shake. The staff are very courteous.

Doumar’s in Norfolk is a true local treasure and one of my favorite places to eat in the entire Hampton Roads area. If you’re looking for comforting, old school diner food done right, this is the spot. The BBQ pork sandwich is a must try!!! tender, flavorful, and served with just the right amount of slaw to balance the smoky meat. Their burgers are simple but perfect, griddled to juicy perfection and stacked with classic toppings. The hot dogs have that satisfying snap, and the crinkle cut fries are always hot, crispy, and well seasoned.
And the milkshakes? Thick, creamy, and made just how they should be. I highly recommend the chocolate or strawberry, both are rich without being overpowering. Portions are generous, prices are more than fair, and everything comes out fast whether you eat inside or pull up at the drive-in.
It’s that kind of food that reminds you why the classics never go out of style. There’s nothing pretentious about Doumar’s, just great food served with care. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a full meal, this place never disappoints. I’ll keep coming back again and again. Five stars all the way.

Still the same after all these years. A great place to grab a bite before a hockey game to avoid the inflated prices at Scope. Hamburger, bbq all good especially at that price. Old school and I love it!

My mom and I decided to go to Doumar’s for lunch. We have heard about Doumar’s for years, and today was our first time eating there. The cheeseburgers and fries were very good. The simplicity of the food is what makes it good. I ordered a Cherry Coke, and it was delicious since they make it themselves. The hot fudge cake was delicious as well. We will return to try some more of their eats and treats.

I really wanted Doumar’s to be good, but it just missed the mark. Everything was lacking and I won’t be going back.
First and foremost, the fries had almost no salt on them, making them flavorless. They could have been so good as they were fresh with a light crisp, but no salt left them tasteless.
The cheeseburger tasted like almost nothing, with only cheap relish coming through. I don’t know how you have a cheeseburger with onions and relish that doesn’t taste like beef, cheese, or onion, but that’s what I was given.
The banana shake, again, was so close to being good but simply flopped. I thought it tasted like nothing but vanilla extract, which was strange, but I got to the bottom of the shake and there were 6 untouched wedges of banana at the bottom. Had it been blended properly, I think the shake would’ve been great but alas.
The BBQ pork sandwich is fine enough, the pork just didn’t taste like much so it was a slaw and hot sauce situation.
Overall, it feels like there was a real lack of effort with the food. The service and ambiance were fantastic and exactly what you would hope for, but I can’t get past how mediocre/bad the food was. I’d love to support a local, historical business but how could I when every single item was worse/more expensive than the Cookout across the street.

This local spot is great! The folks who greet you and take your order at this old-timey sorta drive-up are super sweet! You can tell that the owners don’t hire “just anybody”, and they have a quality staff. Food was hot, as ordered, prepared quickly, and delicious! And the price was outstanding! Keep up the good work!

This was the 1st time I ever went to Doumar’s. We drove up, and they came out to wait on us at our car. I had a hot dog and my husband had a BBQ. My hot dog wasn’t all that I’m sorry to say, but my husband’s BBQ was really good, so I have to recommend that. We also had ice cream, I had a Hot Fudge Sunday, and my husband had a float. They wete both good. The place was really crowded. The waitress was very nice and the prices are good too.
