Overall it was OK.
When we walked in, there were four waitresses standing around talking. One waiter (who looked like he had his hands full) went behind the counter, finished what he was doing then proceeded to help us. Just a little weird.
Sitting down and looking around at the place… I know it’s a little older… however everything needs to be cleaned and wiped down. Everything was sticky. Everything was covered in dust, finger prints, spit. It was really disgusting. Just makes me think about how clean everything else is. The decor feels like a trailer trash Cracker Barrel… someone’s caricature on the wall staring at us.. had the radio playing and all we could hear was ADS… like what??
if you’re down for a weird time then I guess it was ok.
This restaurant definitely has gone downhill. Don’t waste your time or money.
Wade’s diner is right down the road and this place is packed.
My neighbors’ plates looked fantastic — the Huevos Rancheros and the Cowboy breakfast were both visually mouthwatering. I should’ve followed their lead. Instead, I ordered oatmeal with biscuits and coffee.
For context: I don’t order oatmeal for health reasons — I order it because I genuinely love oatmeal. A good bowl should be hearty, creamy, and comforting. Even Chef Sam Stephens would agree. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the place to get it. Mine was so soupy I half-joked about needing a straw. (And honestly, it almost worked.) The flavor was good, but the texture was off. A longer simmer and perhaps the addition of nut butter or yogurt could easily transform it into a richer, creamier bowl.
The biscuits, however, were the highlight. Not the tall, flaky kind, but more of a medium Southern-style biscuit — denser than a fluffy biscuit, softer than a scone, with lightly crisped edges and a buttery flavor. I didn’t need jelly, butter, or gravy. They stood on their own.
Service was mixed. My server had a no-nonsense, straight-faced morning energy that I initially took as tiredness or maybe not feeling well. She was also the only person handling the floor, so coffee refills were slow, especially after I paid (I like paying upfront so I can eat in peace). Still, she was polite and accommodating despite being clearly stretched thin. A second server would’ve made a noticeable difference.
As for whether I’d bring out-of-town guests here: probably not. Doug’s doesn’t project a uniquely “Colorado Springs” vibe. It feels more like the kind of breakfast spot locals appreciate — cozy, familiar, and humble, with that small-town American breakfast identity that fits right into the neighborhood.
Overall: solid biscuits, friendly-but-stretched service, and classic local-spot charm. I’d give it another try — just not for the oatmeal next time.
I look forward to trying more things on menu and I’ll definetly be back soon 😉
Happy to support local businesses
EDIT 01/29/2025: Got the Big Pig Omelette today. Best omelette I’ve ever had. The red and green chili are on point. Doug’s just knocked Uncle Sam’s off my #1 spot. Doug’s is officially my favorite breakfast in El Paso County.
