Stopped here for lunch out on their patio with our kids. The cheese bread appetizer was amazing! We loved the Scarborough fair pizza! Highly recommend both. My kids really loved the cheese pizza. They both ate so great! We had excellent service. Was a great stop!

Dough Trader is a great spot for delicious pizza in Spearfish. The crust was crisp and light, the marinara flavorful, and the toppings fresh with a nice variety of unique options. It took a little while for our pizzas to arrive, but the quality made it worthwhile. The outdoor seating is especially pleasant, while the inside is simple and casual. Prices are a bit higher than chain pizza places, but the taste and experience make it worth it. Highly recommended.

This was a cool place. The decoration was eclectic and comforting. We got 3 different pizzas and they were all fantastic. Dough was the perfect soft to crunch. Service was very nice and helpful. They reminded us they are cash only before we ordered. Go here and enjoy.

We love this place and it has become our toddler’s favorite! The back part with the free arcade machine did it for us too, we can now sit down and actually eat while our son gets a little occupied than trying to go all over the restaurant. He loves saying hi and interacting with the friendly staff, everyone there is so sweet to us. The food is incredible!! I love that it is sourdough b/c that is so healthy, my fave is the goat beets salad, best salad in town. Everyone is so kind and the restaurant is super cozy and cute!! Clean and reminds me of memorable Italian restaurants. Thanks everyone for creating such a great restaurant, much love!

I should title this review “Death of a Loyal Customer”! My family and I have been long-time loyal customers of Dough Trader (DT) for a decade. And when I say “loyal customer” I mean it to the tune of at least once a week (between lunches and dinners) and often more. But, I think that today was my last time. DT has always been a bit quirky, and that was part of the charm, different employees did things differently and as a customer you embraced it or at least learned to live with it. But lately either thier turnover has been too high or they are just not training their employees any longer. Today I ordered the SAME Salad I’ve ordered well over a Hundred Times. I asked if I could Substitute the Olives & the Pepperoni for beets. As I said, I’ve ordered this salad this way Well Over a Hundred Times! The employee taking my order said “Yes, Perfect” (this was on the phone, a to-go order). When I picked up my salad, it was $10.18 – $3.00 more than the normal price of $7.00 . At first I didn’t think about it, so I went outside but within a minute came back in and told the employee that the salad should have been $7.00
She told me “It’s because you added beets. We always charge for add-ons” I replied that I didn’t add, I substituted two ingredients – olives and pepperoni for one. She told me it was POLICY that they don’t allow for any substitutions. She said POLICY was that they can take something off, but anything in its place Had to be charged. I asked her if this was “new policy, because I’ve done this same order over a hundred times” and she told me that it has always been the POLICY.
This makes absolutely No Business Sense.
A: I’ve done this order over a hundred times.
B: Olives & Pepperoni cost more than beets, so cost wise DT makes out with this order
And C: why did the employee taking my order say “Yes, Perfect” when I placed the order?
It just doesn’t make sense, and unless ownership/management really makes changes including reaching out to me, my family and I will not be back. It’s just not worth the hassle and employees poorly trained in customer service!
Dough Trader was once the Premier Spearfish pizza restaurant, but today there are options for great pizza within a few minutes drive. To put it succinctly, I took OUT, Olives and Pepperoni which are expensive items and asked for beets, which cost less, and was Charged $2.50 Additional. AND I was told this was”The POLICY FOR YEARS”!
SAD!

My husband, granddaughter and I live in Rapid City and on 1/17/26 we decided to take in the BH game and we were excited to take our granddaughter for pizza at Dough Trader’s. It had been quite awhile since we had been there and we were very excited. However, when we got there, it was not a good experience.

There were only 2 other people there and it was freezing inside. We were seated by the door and were so cold we put our coats on. Not knowing it was reserved, because there was no reserved sign on it, we moved to the booth by the fireplace. The server told us we had to move so we told her it was freezing at our table but she didn’t respond.

Then, we ordered drinks and finished them. We waited for about half an hour before she came and asked us if we wanted refills. We had decided that we were going to order another drink but by then, we were so irritated that we just ordered water. All told it took about an hour and 10 minutes before we even got our food. People were coming in and out and picking up their pizzas to go. It would have been nice if she would have informed us when we came in that they had a lot of online orders and we probably would have been more understanding. We were starving and pretty much just felt like chopped liver, when we finally got the pizza. It was good but not excellent, as has been our experience in the past. My granddaughter was not impressed with the place. Next time, we’ll choose another restaurant, preferably one that appreciates their customers.

Crust was phenomenal! I’m can’t recall having ever had pizza this good. The crusts were so top notch. The seasoning and flavors were great too, but the crust is what’s got me amazed. Everything else is cardboard by comparison.

Quite possibly the best pizza we’ve ever had. The crust is perfection, the topping combos so unique and flavorful, and we loved our salads too. 100% worth the drive from Rapid. (And trust me — you want the large pizza all to yourself so you can have leftovers.) We sat on the patio and couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day or friendlier service. Can’t wait to go back!

Came when it was dead, got the big 24″ Betty Rizzo pizza. Very good but the balsamic sauce drizzle was a little sweet to the overall smoothness. Would definitely come back, fresh squeezed lemonade was great too and friendly workers.
