Dough carries a strong reputation for Neapolitan style pizza, and I was eager to try it. My first bite was slightly underwhelming. I found myself wishing the crust had a bit more structure. Initially I wondered if the oven was not quite hot enough or if the added pepperoni and its grease had affected the cook. However, the outer crust told a different story. It was beautifully done, airy, and well blistered.

The flavors overall were strong and well balanced. The pepperoni carried a mild bite that melded nicely with the Vera Margherita base. The basil was fresh and assertive, exactly what you hope for in this style of pizza. There was some uneven cooking on the bottom, though the rim remained consistently solid. The crust resisted the knife more than expected, making it a tougher cut than it should be.

It leans slightly heavier than a true Naples pie, but you still leave feeling refreshed rather than bloated, even after finishing the whole pizza. It is filling, flavorful, and very close to authentic.

The bar experience elevated the visit. Emily, our bartender, was excellent. Helpful, enthusiastic, and clearly invested in both her craft and her team.

Dessert was a panna cotta with great texture and sharp, clean flavors. It carried a mild vanilla note that needed the accompanying fruit, and the soaked cherries and yellow grapes paired beautifully. The plating could use refinement, as the powdered sugar and edges looked a bit messy, but the composition worked. Paired with an amaro, it was a strong finish. The portion was generous, perhaps larger than necessary, but I will never complain about abundance.

Overall, I enjoyed the meal. There are refinements to be made, particularly in consistency of cook and presentation, but Dough delivers strong flavors and a quality experience.

1 star — I will never return.
2 stars — Disappointing; not worth a return.
3 stars — Adequate; good, but not a destination.
4 stars — Very good; worth going out of the way for.
5 stars — Exceptional; I would plan travel around this meal.

My wife and I tried this restaurant since we were looking online for good pizza spots. I didn’t expect the Bruschetta to be this small of a portion, kind of disappointing for the price.. was a serving of two, thin slices of toasted bread with lots of tomatoes. Tasted good, but I expected a lot more for $15… the Fontina E Salsiccia pizza was tasty! Would recommend it. Had an authentic taste and nostalgic to my childhood. Very pricey for what you’re receiving, in our honest opinion. At the end, we waited for our server to bring us the check and she was having a conversation for over 5 mins with another couple next to us. We were starting to grow impatient, wondering when she will tend to us and finish her chit chat. Sadly, will most likely not be coming back.

We went to Dough as a family of four and had such a great experience. Right away, they won us over by bringing out pizza trays with pizza dough for the kids to play with while we waited for our food. It was such a thoughtful and fun touch that kept them entertained.

They don’t offer an official sampler, but it’s easy to create your own by ordering several half pizzas. We did this and it worked perfectly, letting everyone try a variety of flavors.

Every pizza we tried was delicious, and there honestly wasn’t a miss among them.

1. Ezzo’s Cupping Pepperoni
2. Fontina e Salsiccia
3. Amore di Maiale

Great food, family-friendly atmosphere, and little details that really make the experience stand out. We’ll definitely be back!

Enjoyed the margarita pizzas. “Cheese” pizza for kids were margaritas without basil. Kids liked them. The sauce & cheese was spot on. Really liked the fire oven grilled pizza dough – very chewy and yummy. Shrimp pasta was a hit. Chicken& mushroom pasta was ok. The beer flight was perfect. Service was very prompt. Minimal wait. The place was packed Saturday afternoon but we were able to grab a table outside. Kids got play dough to play with as well while we were waiting.

I have been wanting to go here for over a year now since reading about it. I saw a few articles about it’s magherita pizza and marked it down as a place to go to one day. Every restaurant I’ve gone to has a strange version of magherita pizza that is essentially cheese pizza with tomato slices ontop and while some were okay none were what I wanted or expected.

Fast forward to tonight. Finally we headed here and I was actually nervous it wouldn’t live up to the hype I had for it. Sat outside since inside was packed, Mike our server was very patient with us answering questions for my mother who is normally very picky with foods and helped us decide on a burrata sampler, casa shareable salad, and a magherita pizza and the seasonal pizza for her.

The buratta and mozzarella were great. I’d never had buratta before so wasn’t sure what to expect but the more I ate it and the bread the more flavor kept coming.

The salad surprised me, fresh and clean it had a punchy flavor with exquisite oil dressing we couldn’t get enough of.

Then the pizzas arrived and the smell of the basil leaves hit me. I was both excited and nervous to try it. After having the first bite an immediate smile formed on my face so much so my mother wouldn’t stop trying to take a photo. It was everything I wanted from a neopolitan magherita pizza. It was what I had been looking for for years. I tried a piece of her seasonal pizza which had prosciutto (which was also new for me) and topped with a sort of glazed or caramelized pears and it was incredible as well. Wholly a new experience. She then tried a piece of the magherita and looked shocked then nodded and said “Now I know why you had a grin.”

Both of us left with half our food boxed, completely satiated, happy and talking about it being one of the best food experiences we had ever had in our relatively sheltered culinary experiences.

The overall cost for 2 pizzas, shareable salad, shareable sample appetizer platter came out to about $100 and we took half of everything home to enjoy later.

Mike, our server was helpful, patient and a great part of the experience. The staff were amazing, atmosphere on a late dark February night was pleasant and cool outside minus the car lights in the parking lot flashing our eyes. The food was absolutely remarkable and the aromas of the bread and basil were spectacular making me more hungry even after finishing our meal and with every breath on the way home the basil and olive oil smell simply remindee me of the fantastic experience. I genuinely cannot wait to return to experience this once more. Thank you for a pleasant and joyous night.

My favorite place to get pizza and true Italian flavor when not in Italy. I cannot get enough of the amazing food, drinks, desserts and espresso. The service is always great and attentive and it is great to see this spot always buzzing and everyone smiling and enjoying great food.

It’s really the best Neapolitan pizza I had here in San Antonio.
I’m Italian and normally very picky when it comes to Italian food. Our pizza was really good, I liked the atmosphere in this restaurant and the wine (primitivo) was also delicious.
If you like to have a nice dinner with your date or friends and you like Neapolitan pizza, you will love this place ❤️

Delicious and friendly place! Lucas was our server and he was amazing! It was our first time eating there and he was very helpful. It’s great for kids too if you don’t want them using electronics. They provide them with dough to play with while they wait. A definite must try!

The hype is real. Called in advance to reserve (6 adults, 6 children). They went above and beyond and had the table ready with the six spots for the children with children’s menus, no knives, plastic cups, and extra dough that they could play with. Every single item was delicious and came out fast. Service was excellent. We ordered a few pizzas, pasta of the day and burrata.

This place was darn good! The dough is perfect. Cat the manager was super pleasant and even gave us her card for next time we are in San Antonio. A heavy percentage of the food was cooked in that Italian oven of course and the food from the oven was definitely the stars of our show tonight. It was a 20 minute drive to get there but we also went there last night. Shows how much we loved it. The chef wasn’t actually there tonight and honestly I could tell the difference and believe me I understand. The seating and acoustics didn’t match the quality of the food. Still amazing.
