The pictures of the food look good. The food looks good. Yet it’s clearly raw. Several pieces were raw and not cooked to temp what so ever. I called the location and the employee did say she would let the kitchen no. But did not offer me a refund or to remake my food.

This place was next door to the motel I was staying at so I thought I’d walk over and check it out and I’m glad I did. It was nice, chill and laid back when I was there at around 5pm. The Bang Bang Shrimp was great as was their boneless Honey BBQ Wings. The big highlight of this was the Mushroom Swiss Burger. That was the BEST Mushroom Swiss Burger I’ve ever had (I ordered it Medium and without the tomato and onion albeit.) The burger was juicy, the cheese and mushrooms were excellent. Definitely recommend it

1st I’d like to say that I’d been eyeing DTB&G’s menu on GrubHub for a while. Today I got a discount. I was craving to try their Buttermilk Biscuit w/Chicken and Home Fries so I ordered immediately and picked up my foods asap ONLY TO SEE that my chicken sandwich was on a BUN & my Potatoes were FRENCH FRIES!!!. This is a trend when GrubHub gives away offers for restaurants here in Columbus!!! They must NOT care Y’all…

I want to start by saying we want to like this place. We like to support Double Take as a POC-owned and operated business. This was not a one-off visit. We usually came here about once a month, and it had been part of our regular rotation of restaurants. The vibe is solid if you’re into a true dive bar, the music is R&B, and the food is decent. Up until this visit, we hadn’t had a bad experience, which is why I’m landing at three stars instead of lower.

That said, this visit will be our last.

The issues were all around pricing transparency and fees. We noticed multiple extra charges added to our bill with no clear notice anywhere in the bar or on the menu:

1. A $1 service charge (no reason)

2. A 2.99% credit card processing fee

3. An automatic 18% gratuity for a party of four, with zero signage or verbal notice

Lastly, TAX is also charged on the automatic gratuity. This place is absolutely maximizing profits anyway possible.

This is a darker bar, so catching all of this on the receipt is not easy, especially when you’re not expecting multiple add-ons. Whether these fees apply to all tabs or only when you order food is also unclear.

On top of that, the drinks were extremely light. For $9, you are getting the absolute minimum pour. Roughly a 4 oz drink total, about 1 oz of vodka and 3 oz of mixer.

None of these things on their own would have been a dealbreaker, but combined, they left a bad impression. The lack of transparency around fees and the minimal pours just don’t feel like good business practices.

We genuinely wanted to keep supporting this spot, but after this experience, we won’t be back.

Update 2022: from 5 stars to 2

All taps out and they served fried pickles so hot they burned my mouth. The back gate was locked with master lock so massive fire hazard. No small plates for sharing, random glassware, plastic ware. Green beans contain meat not listed on menu.

There’s plenty of great spots in Columbus to have a great dining experience. I don’t think this place is that.

Old review:

Can’t wait to go back.

Food was so good and they have lots of different options. Chef came out to pick cress and chives growing in the back patio area, so cool. They also came out later to ask us how the food was. I love when that happens at a restaurant, it is great to have the opportunity to thank the person who made the delicious food.

I had the Lobster Mac and it was such a good deal for $20. Everything was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The Calamari appetizer was so good (and the sauce that comes with is amazing), and fried pickles were great too. Their french fries are good too. I’m pretty sure it’s all good at this place.

The ambiance was nice and casual, and super chill. The back patio area brought up memories from past dining experiences in New Orleans.

Only thing I can think of is we didn’t have a drink menu, then again we didn’t ask for one since we went for the Truly on tap with a few white tea shots for good measure.

Staff were super nice and made sure we had everything we needed the entire time.

Oh, and there is parking out back.

Place pleasantly surprised me. We took a weekend trip here from Atlanta. Looked for some late night food. Saw they had Turkey Ribs and was sold. Wasn’t sure what to expect, but those turkey ribs were some of the best I have had all year! Left a food review in cdeatsatlanta tiktok because it was so good. Check them out. Wasn’t really a fan of the rasta pasta but I would travel to Columbus for those Turkey Ribs alone.

Drinks, apps and entrees. Interesting atmosphere. Got patted down by “security” prior to entering. Bartender advised us to sit where ever. After taking a seat, it took over 10+ minutes to receive menus and give a drink order. Slow service unfortunately but otherwise good food and tasty drinks.

This was the second visit, first time was a late night stop and second was Happy Hour. Food was great both times and service was fantastic both times. The price, quality, and quantity can’t be beat for Happy Hour specials. They did charge us an automatic 20% tip which is frustrating for many reasons but mainly because I like to tip in cash. However, we will be back and want to try the Sunday brunch menu.
