A nice little restaurant in the winchester Bay
Highly recommend
Try the chicken wings and the oysters shooters they are delicious
I think many people seeking a “Hole in the wall, dive bar” would be extremely happy here? Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with the place, and they have GREAT food – it was just an unexpected terrific find!
The parking lot is clean, as is the outside of the building. That calmed concerns I had regarding a first visit to an unknown restaurant. The door handle on the north entrance to the bar was the only dirty thing I noticed.
Once inside, the were no unusual odors, and everyone seemed friendly and happy. This is definitely a local blue collar establishment, and I felt very comfortable there.
The furniture is a bit dated, but sturdy and clean. The environment was welcoming, and some musical instruments in the corner of the dining room suggests local musicians play there on occasion. I washed my hands before eating, and the bathroom reminded me of my RV, based on it’s size. It is definitely not something that would work without issues, to a mobility impaired person. The bathroom was clean, but the exhaust fan was very loud. On a plus side, it would help cover the sounds of flatulence!
The restaurant has two rooms. The “dining only” is about ⅓ of the dining, and the “bar & dining” is about ⅔ of the whole dining area. What is important to note is, people under 21 yrs of age have to eat in the dining only room that is quieter. The dining/bar is more lively, thus louder. It also means the language is a bit looser, and you can hear the slot machines.
Since the bartender is the waiter/waitress for both rooms. I would think the service would be better in the room the bartender could see you in?
OK, now onto the food. My friend suggested the fish tacos, or the lasagna. He warned us that the lasagna sells out fast, so get there early!
My girlfriend ordered the halibut fish tacos. They offer it either breaded or grilled, and she chose the latter.
I was lucky they still had lasagna, so I ordered it. I was a little hesitant, because I’m kinda picky on how I like my lasagna.
We ended up playing some slots while we waited for our food. My girlfriend won enough to pay for dinner, so that really set the mood!
My lasagna came with a small salad, and I requested Ranch dressing. The salad arrived with garlic bread on the side, and was a good salad consisting of mixed greens and cherry tomatoes. The Ranch dressing was good, too.
My girlfriend’s fish tacos arrived next. The presentation was nice, and they looked freshly prepared. Her plate came with some condiments on the side, and the one she was most impressed with, was the pineapple salsa! She said her meal was the best fish tacos she ever had! That means a lot to me, because she isn’t always impressed with her meals.
My lasagna arrived next, and came with more garlic bread. I believe it’s Texas Toast, with garlic butter on it? It tasted great, and I couldn’t eat it all.
I don’t know who made my lasagna, but I would expect they worked for a very high end restaurant at some point? I’ve had some great lasagna in my 61 years, especially my mother’s! The flavors melded into the noodles, is wasn’t dry, or watery – it was perfect! I’m guessing they make the lasagna in advance, then put a slice in a glass dish, and bake it to reheat?
I say this because during the baking process, it slightly overcooked the first ½” on the bottom, making for a chewy crust delight! If you’re like me, you prefer the corners of the lasagna pan for this same texture. I can honestly say, I’ve never had better lasagna in my life, and this was without a doubt the best lasagna I’ve had in ANY restaurant!!!
Our food was so good, two nights later, we went back again. We couldn’t stop talking about how good our food was.
My girlfriend went with the grass fed cheeseburger & fries. I stayed with the lasagna. Afterwards, we won on the slots again, then listened to karaoke. It was great, both times we visited!
