BEST STEAK IN THE MIDWEST! Let me preface I am snob when it comes to how my food tastes. And this steak was absolutely juicy, perfect temp, and nothing less than perfect. Owner is awesome and our server Aubrey was swift, nice, and with excellent recommendations. Top notch place that you must drive miles and miles for.

Double Barrel Steakhouse has been our go-to date night spot for months. We’ve gladly made the 30-minute drive over and over because it was that good. Six months ago we discovered the chislic basket and it was nearly perfect. We asked for medium rare and got exactly that. We devoured it. Even our two-year-old happily ate steak. From then on, every visit was the same order: two chislic baskets with extra fries. No hesitation. No menu browsing. Just trust.
Tonight broke that trust.
I strayed from our usual and ordered the prime rib. It was completely flavorless. The au jus helped, but only because it had to. My husband stayed loyal to the chislic, which came out well to medium-well instead of medium rare. After waiting a bit for our waitress to return (understandable on a busy Friday), we let her know. She was kind and brought out a replacement.
Unfortunately, the second chislic basket was just as overcooked.
When the bill arrived, my husband’s meal had been discounted by 50%, leaving us paying $7.50 for food he couldn’t eat. A discount doesn’t fix the fact that the meal itself missed the mark twice.
This is incredibly disappointing because we didn’t choose Double Barrel out of convenience. We chose it because it was reliable. Because it was worth the drive. Because when you find one thing done rarely well, you stick with it. Consistency is everything, especially with steak, and lately that consistency just isn’t there.
This isn’t about the staff. Our waitress did what she could. This is about food that is no longer being prepared with the care it once was.
We won’t be coming back for a while. Not out of spite, but because when a restaurant becomes a gamble instead of a guarantee, it stops being a favorite. Maybe things will improve over the summer. Until then, we’ll be trying new places. We just wish this one hadn’t made that decision for us.

We got an early dinner. Burgers were awesome! Super thick and juicy. They have high chairs for the kiddos. The women’s restroom had an actual changing table, not just the foldable station. As a mom with little ones, that is absolutely fantastic!

Well, you might be so quick to drive through Henry South Dakota and think you didn’t miss much, but you’d be so wrong, wow this place just rocked, the meal started off with their excellent wide variety, fresh salad bar! seriously this odd the best steak I’ve had in a long time! Great flavor, great seasoning and perfectly cooked to boot, medium rare perfection, and I’ll assume it was just au jus to go with the steak, not needed but a great compliment. Also the boys opted for a solid burger fix, and no one could pass up the Salad bar!
I’ll tell you what, worth the visit, worth the drive, I’m not sure when I’ll get back in the area, but if I can I schedule me the time to have another proper dinner here again. Service was solid for us too!

We heard how amazing the quality of food is here at Double Barrel Steakhouse, so we stopped for lunch. The lunch menu didn’t include the steaks that others highly recommend in other Google reviews. However, they had a deluxe burger with tots for $13.00 that I ordered and my fiancé ordered a hamburger steak with fries and soup plus salad bar. For a starter, we had pepper jack curds with homemade ranch dip. Literally everything was phenomenal and fresh! I am not a meat lover but I can tell you that the burger patty was a revelation! It’s Angus, and I have tried it before, but this was hands down delicious down to the last bite: juicy, perfectly cooked, flavorful and perfectly seasoned without being able to tell you with what. Ashley was our server, and took great care of us without being nosy about it. Just a great lunch. Great price, excellent food and clean establishment. I enjoyed the log cabin atmosphere. The restrooms were clean and recently updated with everything, even a baby changing table. Highest recommendation!
