Dot’s Soul Food Restaurant is Southern comfort at its absolute finest.
From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re welcomed like family. The atmosphere is warm, down-home, and filled with the rich aroma of real country cooking. Dot’s doesn’t just serve food—it serves love on a plate.
Every dish is made with heart and seasoned to perfection. Whether it’s the tender smothered pork chops, crispy fried chicken, slow-cooked greens, or the best mac and cheese you’ll ever taste, you can tell everything is homemade with care. The cornbread? Absolutely unforgettable.
Portions are generous, and the service is friendly and fast. It’s no surprise this place is by far the best and all the cars in the parking lot proves that!
If you’re craving authentic Southern soul food, Dot’s is hands-down the best country restaurant around. One visit and you’ll be coming back again and again.

Great lunch meal after a morning in Decatur. By 1:15 pm, they were running low on fried chicken and fish, along with being out of banana pudding. Some of us had the fried chicken (the best!!) and fried catfish (running low). The creamed corn was excellent. Always make the effort to stop here when near Decatur.

My wife and I visited Dot’s because we had heard about how good the food was there. After a 30 minute drive and another 35 minutes in line, we wasn’t impressed. The dressing wasn’t good, I only received two pieces of sweet potatoes that tasted canned, and the pork chop lacked flavor. Some may love it, but for us this just wasn’t it. We ended up stopping at Scrugg’s Barbecue on our way out of Decatur for a good meal. The picture shows the plate before I ate anything off of it. Do better Dot’s.

Some of the best fried chicken and macaroni and cheese I have ever had. If you know you know, and if you don’t… I suggest you find out. I was driving through around lunchtime and I saw a whole bunch of cars, so I figured I would turn around and see what this place was. I am so so glad that I did. The chicken breast was the juiciest fried chicken I have ever had. Perfectly seasoned in my opinion. The pinto beans were good too. I really want to go back any try more. The staff was super friendly also.

Food was absolutely excellent. Service was great. There was a really long line when I walked in and the crew had it moving relatively quickly. There was one lady taking care of the entire restaurant’s drinks and table clearing and she was doing a better job than I often see a team of people doing. Price was good for the food quality. Turnip greens were great and the lemon. Cake was excellent. Fried chicken was good, cornbread muffins were great, and mash ‘n gravy was excellent. Will definitely be coming back when I’m in the area around lunchtime.

I absolutely love this place. Food is delicious, the staff are always friendly, and it’s so close to home. My personal favorites are their fried catfish, and chicken/dumplings. Banana pudding for dessert.

Definitely one of the best meat and twos I’ve visited recently! Stopped by on our way home to Huntsville from Memphis.
Dot’s is styled a bit like a cafeteria – your menu options are posted on a whiteboard, and a staff member works behind the counter to plate whatever delicious dishes you select.
Honestly, everything we had was amazing. My dad said the fried corn was just like what he ate as a kid, and that his greens were good and the dressing part of his turkey and dressing was particularly tasty. My boyfriend’s fried okra had the perfect balance of okra flavor vs breading flavor, and his breaded pork chop was delicious (although maybe just a little tough). My mom and I agreed that the fried chicken was some of the best we’d had. The yams were sweet and soft but not overpowering. And the mac and cheese was obviously homemade, with a unique, almost Gouda-ish flavor. The rolls were probably storebought but were still a soft and slightly sweet addition.
The only thing that disappointed me a little was the slice of chocolate cake we all shared. It was a touch dry. It may have been leftover from the day before, as it was the only chocolate slice left. I will try pie next time!
Dot’s is no-frills, down-home cooking at its best, run by friendly and kind people. I’m sure we will return on our next trip to Memphis!

The lady who picks her food is just rude and it seems like if you’re there you’re interrupting them or disrupting whatever they have going on like they don’t wanna be there. The servers are rude. I witnessed them making fun of a customer just because of what they ordered or because they didn’t know that the servers bring the drinks to them so they were joking on him. The ladies who worked there just rude and unacceptable.

The first time I came to Dot’s Soul Food Restaurant, I was looking forward to eating some good home cooking, after hearing a friend talk about how good their food was. Each time that I’ve come I’ve been impressed with the selections of food to pick from and impressed with the taste but notice that skimpy portions were given to us. The servers weren’t friendly or outgoing but I chalked it up with them being super busy. The second time was the same but worse. There was no long line and only one person in front of us. We were made to feel as if we didn’t belong there or that we were just being tolerated. We walked up to the counter and there was no smile given, just blank looks. My friend tried to break the ice by attempting to engage the servers in conversation but to no avail. They simply asked what did we like to order and proceeded to put the food on our plates. The atmosphere was set for me. I won’t return again!
