I found this place about a month ago after spending time in India. And since then, I keep coming back. The food here is incredibly authentic, it tastes like a food that your mom or auntie, or family will cook at home. Very home-cooked and authentic taste.
Especially because it’s cooked by two people who know what real South Indian food or Indian food in general should taste like.
I always get their dosas and thali, and every time, it’s phenomenal —it’s fresh, hot, and packed with flavor. The sambar, rasam, different chutneys, and thali are just amazing. Nothing else in the Bay Area comes close to the taste here. And I always crave their food.
The staff and helpers are super friendly, and the ambiance inside is welcoming and comfortable. This has quickly become my favorite go-to Indian spot. I’ve tried plenty of other places, but none can compare.
If you’re craving real Indian food, you have to try this place!!!!
Kids can dive into the Cheese Dosa, a golden dosa shell filled with melted, gooey cheese—simple, comforting, and a guaranteed favorite. There’s even a surprise twist: the Chocolate Dosa, a sweet treat wrapped in a crispy crepe-like shell, perfect for dessert or a playful snack.
The veg pulao and veg thali were delicious and tasted like home-cooked food. I also liked the sweet – it wasn’t too sweet, just right. However, the Mumbai masala dosa wasn’t as good because the masala, with paneer and mixed vegetables, didn’t work for me. I also tried the fried rice twice, and it had an unusual taste and smell, which didn’t feel healthy. The onion pakoda was disappointing too, as it had more gram flour and hardly any onion. so I think this is something that could be improved.
The ambience is nice, the seating areas are clean, and the portion sizes are just right.
I gave 4 stars because while most things were great, some dishes need improvement.
The Mini Idli with podi and Idli Vada Pongal Combo were fantastic, both being comforting and packed with authentic flavors. The Veg Thali was also impressive, offering a variety of dishes that felt like a complete Indian meal experience. For dessert, the soft and sweet Gulab Jamun was a treat, but the real star was the Chikoo milkshake, the best I’ve had – thick, creamy, and refreshing!
The restaurant was spotless, and the service was warm and attentive. My favorites were the Chikoo milkshake, filter coffee, Mini Idli with podi, Ghee Karam Dosa, Idli Vada Pongal Combo, and Gulab Jamun. Dosa Express is definitely a place I’d love to revisit!
