Our first trip to Dooley’s as we ventured off 421 into downtown Wilkesboro. Dooley’s is in an old building that probably housed a drug store/soda shop during Wilkesboro’s heyday. Service was prompt. Their menu was extensive. My wife opted for the stuffed potato with ham and cheese. I had the southwest smash burger which hung off all the way around the bun. It was very flavorful. The hand cut fries were cooked just right. We bypassed dessert but the pie case was looked outstanding.

This was our second time visiting Dooley’s on our way home from Boone/Blowing Rock
The menu offers a large selection ton of food, great beer choices and the wait staff is friendly! We sat at the bar and Cody was our bartender. I can’t say enough positive things about him. He gave suggestions for what he recommended for food.and drinks. He Let us sample some beer, highly recommend the Blueberry beer! You can tell Cody is a favorite because lots of patrons knew him. I’ve had the smash burger 11/10. The chili was incredible. My husband had nachos, HUGE portion for an appetizer. And I’ve had the turkey Reuben that was really good. If the Two Boros brewery is open across the street, GO! That’s where the bear is brewed and it’s really good!
Ate my food before I could snap a pic, but trust me, it’s good

In the downtown area of Wilkesboro, is a quaint place called Dooley’s. The arrival, service, food and price was all good and reasonable. We enjoyed all aspects of the time here. As we were traveling through and saw this night fit what we wanted and were not disappointed. Lots of options from sandwiches, wings to different other items. Recommended as this was a pleasant experience.

We have visited this restaurant a few times. The staff is kind. They always explain the menu and answer questions well. Gluten-free options available. There is a higher price for this option. The meals have always been delicious. Thank you for Gluten-free options. And delicious tasting food.

This is a nice place to grab a bite to eat. They have an unbelievable number of different types of burgers. You can get the burger patty whatever size you want, from a 1/4 pound, 1/2 pound, 3/4 pound, and a full pound burger. You can also be wild and get a 5 (yes five) pound hamburger. There are about 20 or 25 different types of burgers. I ordered the cowboy burger. Other people got the hot box, the Philly cheese steak burger, the jalapeño burger, and the cheese lovers burger. The fries and potato chips are house made, as well as the macaroni and cheese.

Dont let the ‘hole in the wall’ feel fool you. I ordered the Cowboy Burger and my husband ordered the Black & Blue Burger. They were super fresh, perfectly cooked, and super juicy. The service was super fast.
We were in town for training and almost didn’t stop. We are so glad we did! Best burgers weve had – by far.

I got the Carolina Burger (adding lettuce, tomato, pickle) and it was great! Patties were huge and the chili was great. I generally like eating healthy, but I recommend giving up here unfortunately. I have been here twice and every item that’s veggie centered has been mediocre.

Great place for people who eat Gluten free. We stop in when ever we are in the area. I love to get the pound of chicken and get a side of fries. They also have great burgers and other dishes. Another thing we usually get is a slice of pie for dessert. They typically have a very large selection of pies. Get the apple pie if they have it but the cheese cake is also good. They even have outside seating for the warmer days. A great place for the whole family so you should stop in. Not a supper fancy upscale place but if you like the local restaurant feeling you have found the place to eat. Price is also great for the amount of food you are getting. Service is fast and friendly. Again we go every time we go through here on our way home so a different recommendation if you are eating Gluten free!

My husband and I enjoyed a nice September afternoon lunch here. The weather was perfect for enjoying a meal outside, especially since we had our dog with us. We both enjoyed our meals and our waitress took good care of us, despite having to go in and outside.

Dooley’s Tavern and Grill: A Hidden Gem in Wilkesboro
While traveling through Wilkesboro, we decided to venture off our usual route to explore, and we stumbled upon Dooley’s Tavern and Grill. What a discovery! This place is an absolute gem.
The menu at Dooley’s is impressively extensive, offering something to satisfy every craving. From hearty classics to more unique dishes, every item feels thoughtfully prepared. Everyone at our table found something they loved, and the flavors were reminiscent of mama’s home-cooked meals—comforting, satisfying, and full of heart.
The atmosphere was lively, as the place was packed—a clear sign of how beloved this spot is among locals and visitors alike. Despite the crowd, the service was seamless. The staff was friendly, polite, and genuinely attentive, making the dining experience all the more enjoyable.
I took a few photos to capture the experience but made sure to avoid including anyone in them.
Dooley’s was well worth the detour from the main road, and I’m already planning to make the three-hour drive back just to enjoy another meal here. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is a place you don’t want to miss!
