When calling for reservations the rep was sweet & helpful. Off season (January) upstairs was a little hot for some but perfect for others. Dawn was our waitress, she was so nice. Food was good and the price was decent for two meals. Dim lighting

I have had many great experiences at Don’s. Two years ago my wedding party and guests had dinner there, and my sorority had Christmas dinner there multiple years, but about last night…worst dining experience ever. 1) The rock fish special was tough and overcooked; I think it was frozen fish not fresh. 2) The manager replaced it with “fried flounder” which was a mess too. 3)The hush puppies were so hard and overcooked, they were meant for the hound dogs they were invented for. 4) The Mac n cheese pasta was overcooked. Plus I asked the waitress if the Mac n cheese was baked and she said yes I will say that the fried oysters appetizer was delicious and the dinner rolls were too. The waitress provided good service and the manager discounted our bill without us asking. When you come for a meal and leave unsatisfied, the bad outweighs the good.

Service was good our waiter was very attentive and understanding since we had our little one. Food was good a little pricey. The shrimp tasted fresh along with the crab legs didn’t need any butter so sweet naturally.

Meh

Mixed reviews on the food.
The smothered fish with wild rice was good, the sauce tasted great and no bones or shells.
The blackened fresh fish was reported as not tasting fresh and not really blackened seasoning.
The kids burgers while eaten, were too big for kids mouths. French fries were good.

The view was beautiful.
The service was excellent.
The live music was great.
The place itself was meh. More bar and weirdly spaced tables.

Came here a while ago and won’t be coming back. We were greatful to see a selection of vegetarian items. We got the pesto pizza. The WORST pizza we have ever had! The entire center of the pizza was completely raw still! I love cheese … But wow! There was so much cheese ontop of that raw dough it just fell apart. Thankfully our waitress saw the disaster of a pizza when we were investigating it and she handled it without us having to say anything.

There really is nothing better than reasonably priced seafood and great staff. That’s what you get here. 3 kids and 2 adults all enjoyed amazing meals. Clean restaurant and easy check-in makes this a great family friendly place to eat.

We dine it last Wednesday (10.08.25) for our anniversary dinner after over 4hrs drive from PA. Our server (Amy) was very pleasant, food was excellent specially the soft-shell crab. Plenty of servings. Highly recommended. A must stop at Chincoteague, VA

Every time I go to Chincoteague, I eat here. With lots of options on the island, many people may wonder why. First, I eat here because of the delicious food, generous portions, and good prices. The crab cakes, cream of crab soup, scallops, hushpuppies, and Crab Imperial are all phenomenal. My friend and I ate crab cakes, scallops, and cream of crab soup almost twice daily on our trip, and Don’s were in the top two in all three of those categories after seven days of seafood Heaven. I particularly loved that I could tell they used lump crab meat and very little filler in the crab cakes and that the cream of crab was also loaded with nice sized chunks of crab. The scallops were huge and perfectly prepared in doneness and seasoning. Their sides were delicious and the biggest of the whole trip. The hushpuppies were homemade and fresh and when eaten with a bit of their cinnamon butter were fabulous; the roles were also good. It is clear their is a lot of talent in the kitchen. Our waitress knew her stuff, the building is accessible, and the bathrooms were nicely done for people with mobility issues. Once again, I loved my experience here and hope you will as well.
And we actually managed to eat a fried soft shell crab…a new experience…

I ate here on a Friday night when prime rib was their special. The people that greeted us at the door were very polite and wonderful to talk to. They had a nice place to wait while in line for a table. You could tell that many of the people around us were locals and many were well beyond retirement age and you could see the love between them as they shared their meals and that made my meal even more special. A gentleman was beside me that was visiting from Texas and he was also great to talk to and expressed how much he loved the restaurant. I’m not sure if our waitress was new but she was not very knowledgeable of the menu when asked questions. I am not a fan of instant or canned items so I did ask questions about the sides and ordered my sides for prime rib based on that. The roles that they brought out as we were waiting for our food were fluffy and soft and I wish we’d have been able to get more than just one as they were amazing! I got the cream of crab soup and it was very tasty, but they went heavy-handed on the Old Bay on top and they had a thick coating of it which I will remember to ask to be left off the next time I am there. I am extremely picky about my creamy and bisque soups and the soup, minus the excessive Old Bay, was extremely tasty! The prime rib can only be ordered at medium or above, but their medium was the perfect temperature and they did not over season (over crust) the the slice of meat before cooking as many places do so it had perfect flavor. I will note to self that when I go back there to ask them not to sprinkle extra seasoning on top of the meat before serving because I did have to scrape that off to allow the true flavor of the meat to come through, but it melted in my mouth and was perfection! My travel companion got a salad, which I wish I would have because she said it was great. I got macaroni and cheese, which the waitress told me was something that she had eaten herself and tasted like Stouffer’s & was not made in house. Stouffer’s makes a wonderful mac and cheese so I went ahead and got it and she was right, it tasted identical to Stouffer’s and I ate it all. The other item I got was the baked apples. I ordered them because the waitress told me that the apples were peeled and baked with cinnamon sugar and spices in restaurant. I didn’t eat them at all because they tasted like canned apples and I expressly stated that I did not want them if that’s what they were. They were very reminiscent of nugget brand canned apples and were bitter and did not have much flavor despite the restaurant adding some sugar and spices. Side items aside, the main entree was the star of the show and I will definitely be going back to Don’s when I come back to visit the area. In talking to the Texas traveler who said he was very picky about Seafood, he said his seafood platter was one of the best he’d had while staying in Chincoteague. It looked amazing! That is what I’m going to try the next time I am there. Don’s will be a place I recommend to friends who will be traveling there, although I will caution them to stay away from the baked apples (LOL). I would also encourage the people waiting on the tables know the food and if they are not fully familiar tell the customer, ‘let me double check and I’ll get back to you on that answer’. Despite that our waitress was very sweet and had a very warm smile. Oh, I had to come back to add that I was so full that part of the prime rib went back to the B&B with me and I brought it home and had it 2 days later for lunch and it was just as delicious as when they served it to me! You will not leave there hungry!
