Very cool spot, perfect little supper club spot. Delicious fish fry and I like there’s a side bar instead of just the automatic serving of the standard sides. I was able to go extra hard on the (fantastic) coleslaw. Unfortunately wasn’t able to test the bar but my Aunt assured me the old fashioneds are A+.

The haystack onion rings were probably the best I have ever had.

As someone with 10 years of food service experience it hurts me to have to be this critical but this experience was absolutely unacceptable. This was my first time back in 2 years and the first time under the new ownership. It was myself and my mother and we got seated right at opening. With few other tables in the restaurant it took well over 10 minutes just to get one basic mixed drink and a soda. The main attraction for us here was the haystack onion rings. They came out overcooked and flavorless. When we told our server of our dissatisfaction with them she laughed and asked if we were joking. Following the onion rings we waited for more than 45 minutes and multiple other tables sat after we were getting their food before finally getting our meals. My mother asked for an additional ramekin of tarter sauce and was told it would be an additional 50 cents per cup. The dinner was also served with potato salad and beans. The beans came in a normal sized bowl to share however the potato salad was something you couldnt even call a portion. It was 2 pieces of potato in a small ramekin. Needless to say this was beyond disappointing. I dont think we’ll be back.

First time here with my family. We ordered the usual wisconsin fish fry on a Friday night. The wait was highly unusual for just drinks. Food took just as long if not longer. I understand it’s Friday and businesses are short staffed but you are running a business and should consider having a better system in place for these situations. The food quality was poor. Fish was chewy, fries mushy and the “salad bar” wasn’t truly a salad bar. It was a couple tubs with coleslaw and potatoe salad. We’ll over priced for quality served.

First time in, service was good! Food was average. Order fried Cod and it was soggy. Sides with Cod dinner I didn’t understand as they came out 20 minutes before dinner, maybe that’s a thing but baked beans were lukewarm.. Husband ordered prime rib and it was dry. Salad was average. Cocktails a bit pricey. Overall one and done.

My server was not great, but the bartenders and the drinks were amazing. I was a frequent visitor 30 years ago and was happy to see it all looked the same. While the fish fry was a very little bit different, it was very good and I’m excited to go back. I have over an hour drive, or would probably be a regular.

We had prime rib and a filet, both were done as asked, but both were not very tender, vegetables served on plate with meal were barely warm. Salad bar included with the meal was very good.

Had prime rib. Asked for medium. Got barely medium rare. No baked potatoes only fries. Meat was stringy and tough without a lot of flavor. Staff were professional but not very warm. Salad bar was potato salad, baked beans and Cole slaw. Beans should have been served in a bowl they were so runny. Not an impressive meal.

I am so glad this place is open and that the old owners have taken it over as it’s just fabulous! I’ve dined here several times, and have loved all of my meals, the soup and salad that comes with the entrées and my last visit they had the salad bar back open! They make excellent old-fashioned, their staff and owners are amazing and it’s so great to see Donny’s thriving 🙂

Updated December 2025 – Jaci and Lorn are back owning it after the previous owners drove it into the ground. Scallops are still amazing, and full rack of ribs is ridiculous, huge portion. Salad bar is back, drinks are great, and service top notch.

Donny’s Girl in Pipersville (GPS will say Watertown) has a simple, quiet atmosphere. Old Fashions were ok (not bad, but we’ve had better). The relish tray was good. Appetizers were amazing (we had stuffed mushrooms, cheese curds, and popcorn shrimp). Onto the main food.. the filets were phenomenal. Perfectly cooked. The baked walleye is well worth it and highly recommended. The salmon was really salty and so was the rice. Was a little disappointed with that. We had two soup options: french onion (too salty) and lasagna (tasted like a soupy spaghetti- which was awesome). I’ll definitely come back for the steak, but the seafood is hit or miss. ‍♀️
