When i arrived in Elkin NC I did a walk about and found this vintage sandwich shop with the best vibe on the block. The sandwiches are amazing and made with love. The environment is kid friendly. If you want a place to unwind and connect with people, I totally recommend this establishment, the owner is a positive influence and cares about the community, walking in puts an immediate smile on my face and I’m glad to now be a regular customer. Not the typical sandwich shop but an experience both in vibe and quality

12/21 – reduced service from 4 stars to 1 star due to owners review. To clarify a few points the owner brought up, we did not stop on the same day as I posted but 4-6 weeks earlier. I only update my reviews when I have a few to do. As for the comparison to Jersey Mikes, we don’t care for their sandwiches either & don’t think they are worth the price. People have differences in opinion and I feel 4 stars is a good for this shop.

We stopped in mid afternoon. Only two other guests, but sandwiches still took a bit (15 minutes) to be made. They only had can/bottle drinks (no alcohol). Sandwiches were good, but did not think worth the price point. Seating is at an eclectic selection of tables/chairs. Decor was interesting and fun, but probably will not go back.

What a fun sandwich shop! 1st thing: they slice/cut the meats for our sandwich when you order. Loved that. My sandwich was fresh and the slices were nice and thin. Generous sandwiches. Staff on duty was attentive. Place was fun to browse while we waited on our sandwiches. PARKING: There is street parking and parking behind the building & 1/2 a block away.

With their warning, their sandwich is piled high enough that we had to split our sandwich. This place is wonderful! Fun for kids to use their old fashioned toys, children’s table and chairs while the adults can remember oldies pictures, equipment and even a banana bike and an old fashioned ping pong table!

This sandwich shoppe is such a hidden gem of Elkin. As a sandwich fanatic myself, this is the highlight of any trip I take to Elkin I would highly recommend this to any local or traveler passing by the region. You will not regret it!!

Everything about Donna Kaye’s is 5 star. The ladies here are super sweet and can’t do enough for you. The bread is fresh baked and each sandwich is stuffed with tons of meet and cheese. It is a can’t miss lunch spot in Elkin, and I suggest it to everyone I know when they say they are coming out here. I would drive all the way from Winston-Salem just to grab a sandwich and to sit in their awesome dining room.

Such a fun place for a casual lunch. The decor is definitely retro to a simpler time. The tribute to Donna Kaye is abundant and after hearing her story from her daughter, owner Denny, you appreciate the history all the more.
The food is fresh, high quality and delicious, and is prepared when ordered. DK’S has become our go to spot for a great pre winery lunch when visiting Elkin/Wine Country.
