Roomy counter-serve for Japanese rice bowls topped with fried pork, shrimp, or sashimi salmon.

High quality casual dining. You could easily mistake this dish for one served at a full service restaurant. A beautifully plated and very enjoyable meal. My only suggestion would be to make the restaurant more visible to passersby, as I passed by for months before noticing it.

stumbled upon this place and had the best meal we had in DC, even the best japanese food i’ve had in the states. curry flavour hit the spot and kaarage was perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. good portion too

This is hands down one of the best restaurants I ever tried in the D.C. area, the food looks impeccable and the taste is just as good, I am delighted to have found this place.
Food portion was on point for me, and I eat a lot, I appreciate that the portion wasn’t huge as other places, much rather have great quality than stupidly big portions, that said my wife couldn’t finish her bowl.
I will be saving this as a favorite spot to eat here whenever I am in town.

It’s just really good. The ebi was so well fried- flaky yet not greasy, a good match with the spicy salmon bowl.
The self ordering machine is convenient and loved.

Good choice if you are craving this kind of food, which happens to the best of us every now and then. Service is fast, the bowls are quite good and the price is ok. The main weakness for me was the portioning. I found the bowls to be very small. For that price, I would like to feel full at the end of the meal. I really wasn’t.. Apart from that, if you need good food right away, in its weight class, this place will always be a safe bet.

If I could give 10 stars, I would. I’ve never had more authentic Japanese food in America! I got the mix katsudon donburi and my friend got the curry ebi katsudon. Both were so delicious and perfectly portioned! I WILL be returning here again.
Also great vibes – you order at a kiosk, then head upstairs until your food is ready. Plus you can eat while people watching on the street below.

Very delicious Japanese food — the first bite was stunning! The portions are also very generous; it was the first time I finished the rice while still having fish left… The environment is great too, with self-service ordering, which is perfect for shy people.

Places like these are so hard to come by. Good portions, fast service, fresh & authentic donburi. I wish Richmond had a place this great. Definitely will be eating here every time I come to visit DC from now on!

I’ve noticed some reviewers did not like the self-service food order device. I had no qualms with it, in fact I liked the idea of taking my time ordering the food I wanted. Everything on the menu was delicious.
When the food was ready, we picked up the meals ourselves which makes me wonder why I even tipped them 18%. Overall it was worth it and I would go back if I was living in DC.

Delicious Japanese rice-bowl dish (Donburi). We got the Donburi Moriwase, and our little nephew got the tonkatsu with curry. I can tell they use very fresh oil to make the dish. Also the rice they used is perfectly seasoned and cooked. Our little nephew approved, the food is awesome.
This place has gone through renovation, so they offer more seating area on the 2nd floor. You order the food through a kiosk on the first floor. The food comes out fairly quickly. The staff are very friendly.
