I was surprised. It was good!
Spoiler alert,,, I lived most of my life in the southwest, so I have a pretty good grasp on latin food!
Only been 1 time. So I’ll reserve my REAL opinion after i’ve been here a couple times.
But I did enjoy it.
Place is clean. Server was friendly and attentive.
And the burrito I got was pretty good.
So I will be back and leave a better review after i’ve had a couple of different dishes.

Good food, fresh ingredients, and friendly people. The restaurant is clean, there’s a bar and even outside seating available.
My husband and I ordered our food to go, but I really wish we had dined in so I could really check out the salsa bar. So many different salsas to choose from.
I ordered the chicken taquitos and my husband ordered authentic steak tacos. We were both pleased with our meals and said we would be returning soon!

I am so torn on Don Taco. Sometimes the food is outstanding and the service is almost like you are bothering them. Sometimes the food is just ok and the service is outstanding. Sometimes both are great and sometimes both are terrible. Today I called to order take out and was hung up on. Maybe it was my Bluetooth in the car. So I went through the drive through. The young lady took my order she was very pleasant, but the tacos were not great. The tortillas were stale and the toppings were severely lacking. I just don’t know about this place. I hope the management implements some standards.

I don’t understand how this place is a 4.7. I wish I had the same good experiences as the rest of these people. The salsa and queso were fine, good even. But the food was awful. The rice didn’t even look like rice, it looked more like a glob of tapioca, it was so overcooked and gummy. The dishe was incredibly bland. I had to dump salt and other sauces/condiments on the food to even make it edible. I dissected my empanadas and only ate the chicken filling because the empanadas were so doughy and gross. And even then, the chicken was overdone and bland as well. They tasted no better than frozen empanadas from Walmart, and their appearance and texture almost makes me think they were microwaved. The real kicker is I flipped an empanada over and noticed RED DYE from the deli paper they served the dish on had leeched into my food and stained it. This was right after they took my card for payment. The cherry on top was when the manager was informed, he didn’t offer to comp or discount the meal, he just asked if I wanted him to make me a couple of fresh ones (only two, because I had already choked down the other two, and I guess he only wanted to atone for the two I didn’t suffer through). I was ready to leave, so I just said sure. He brings a box of two plain empanadas. None of the toppings on them that came on them in the meal. Still as doughy as ever, and soaked with grease. I tried feeding them to my outdoor cats, and not even they wanted them. I will never be back. Pictures attached of leeched red dye and plain, gross empanadas he had remade for me. The red dye in the picture may be a little difficult to see, but I promise it’s there.
Edit: later I went outside and saw a raccoon eating some of the cats’ food; it also wouldn’t eat the empanada. It was eating around it. Not even a scavenger like a raccoon wanted it.

Very nice atmosphere with plenty of seating and clean interior. Staff was very welcoming, responsive, and polite.
Tried the chorizo quesadilla, choriqueso dip, and the birria sopes. All had very fresh ingredients. The tortillas are definitely handmade. Chorizo wasn’t as spicy as I would want or expect (none of the smokey heat I’m used to with chorizo dishes). It also made every dish it was in very oily. The queso was pretty good besides that but could definitely be a bit thicker. Sopes was very good. Meat was tender and flavorful. Quesadilla is big enough to last AT LEAST two meals.
Overall, great portions for the money but could use a bit more spice and less oil.

I wanted to try a new place. I decided on Don Taco. I read some reviews and some stated the service was not up to par. I decided to go in anyway. I went in at 11:15am and I was the only one there. I waited for a hostess. One walked up there and as she was walking up she held up one finger (meaning just one) and I nodded my head to confirm yes. She never smiled and never greeted me. She grab a menu and I guess she expected me to follow because she never said anything. I followed. She laid the menu down with her back to me and never said anything and walked off. So, I got up and left. I will not be back.

We have been here a few times now. Great casual atmosphere. Tortillas are home made. Service is always fast and friendly. We needed some authentic Mexican food in Florence and Don Taco never disappoints!

This place is consistently good. We’ve ordered all over the menu. The tacos authentic style are the best! We’ve had birria, carnitas and chicken. We’ve also had the taquitos, the soup, the the ceviche and it was all fabulous. The margaritas are good and quite pretty in presentation.

Don Taco is a must try for the Shoals! Something new and different. I got the Quesadilla de Birria which was 10/10. This is real authentic Mexican food! Their fresh salsa bar has a lot of options too. Please don’t go expecting same old Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican food because it just isn’t that. I also had the Paleta de Tamarindo mixed drink and it tastes just like the Mexican candy!
