While coming back from a Temecula visit my favorite food critic, (The Wife) became peckish and wanted food with some heat. Our son recommended Main Street and we discovered 3 competing Mexican food spots closely situated.
I saw this spot and they had me at the word authentic on the sign. We arrived around noon on a Thursday and the place was empty. The convenient drive through makes things easy.
She ordered Chile Relleno which came with rice and beans and I asked for a chicken enchilada and a crunchy hard shell machaca taco, (shredded beef) with double frijoles. Chips and salsa and 2 beers.
It all came out hot and fresh and the beer was ice cold.
The home made salsa Roja had the very best flavor and it had the habanero kick we were looking for…so look out. The chips were fresh but had a touch too much salt.
If your in the mood for authentic Mexican food you need to visit this spot. The clean dining room has televisions and the booths are comfortable. Did I mention the handmade authentic tortillas? oh boy oh boy oh boy.

It’s my first time in this place and I loved! This old fashion Mexican food surprised me with hand made tortillas, the fresh home style menudo serving every day. The corn of the menudo tasted also fresh like in my little town, it doesn’t taste like it is from can.
I just would advise the owner to place some plants or something outside because it seems like the desert, an abandoned place.

Good, quick Mexican food. Fast service. This wasn’t my favorite chili rellemo burrito, but I think people like different types of chili rellemos, and it’s hard to please everyone. This one was more egg-y than I like. Girl that took my order gave me ample pico de gallo. It was delicious.

This is the best Mexican food in Elsinore. Other restaurants have fancier dining rooms and decor, but their cuisine doesn’t compare. I have eaten at them all and their food is hit or miss and some are very expensive. I have even gotten food poisoning at one well known place.
Not only is Don Meres food fresh and superb, but at a very reasonable price.
My wife loves the birria tacos and I have a Carnitas burrito that I have specially made. Best burrito I’ve ever had and the owner, Jose, always remembers what I want. Tell him Mike sent you and you want that Burrito Especial.
Both our daughters want to eat there when they visit our town and they think the enchiladas are the bomb. We have even had the food at our home in large quantities for family gatherings.
My Wife’s Birthday bash was held there a couple weeks ago and all the food was great. One friend ordered ham and eggs and said they were great.

Cheap food, but the salsa was fermented, the ketchup was dark and old, the handmade tortillas were undercooked, the fries were oversalted and it was really hot in the restaurant. They have a leak under their bathroom sink. That place needs love.
