I don’t know where to begin with this one. My wife and I wandered in thinking we’d discovered a new bar. Silly us. The décor was identical to when it was Rancho Grande. We asked the manager if it was still the same place and he confidently informed us, “Oh no, this totally new establishment.” Then he proudly handed us Rancho Grande menus, because nothing says “new identity” like using the old restaurant’s paperwork.
I tried ordering a draft beer listed on said menu. Apparently they don’t carry that beer anymore, because (quoting the manager) “That was a Rancho Grande brand.” I didn’t realize breweries did exclusive deals with random Mexican restaurants but OK.
So I ordered a draft Bud Light instead, and I’m pretty sure I watched the bartender crack open a bottle under the counter and pour it into a draft glass. I didn’t say anything because I was as committed to the performance as she was.
She dropped off a bowl of chips that tasted like they were purchased shortly after the original Rancho Grande opened, then vanished for a solid 15 minutes. When she finally reappeared, she smelled strongly like someone who had clearly gone to “check the salsa levels” in the parking lot.
We asked for the bill and our mystery “draft” beers were $8 each. I honestly thought the business model here was “cheap beer for college students.” Turns out it’s “charge premium prices for counterfeit draft Bud Light and nostalgia chips.”
Five stars if you’re into surreal dining experiences and performance-based confusion. Otherwise, just keep walking.

Food is still good, but the service has gone downhill a bit since it was El Rancho Grande, and the prices are pretty high. I paid $4 for a can of coke, and $6 for a small dish of guacamole that I thought was complimentary. Hopefully this was just a one-off experience, as I was a regular under the old ownership and was always a satisfied customer.
