Don Jose’s was established in 1982, in the small fishing town of Homer Alaska. Jose and Carmen Ramos were born in rural farm towns of Mexico. After meeting each other in beautiful sunny California, and falling in love at the tender age of 18, They decided to adventure north to Alaska, in pursuit of adventure and opportunity.
It didn’t take long for Jose and Carmen to miss and crave their food from Mexico. Soon opening a little Mexican cantina to feed the hungry mariners and oil workers of Homer. Don Jose’s is proud to bring to Alaska the rich, fresh, love filled food that Mexico is known for. From out warming hearts, to your warming bellies. Since 1982, Don Jose’s is here to spice things up in Alaska.
Upbeat eatery & cantina offering familiar Mexican food such as fajitas, burritos & enchiladas.

I loved everything about my experience here. The waiter was nice and was so polite when taking our orders. We started off with some drinks while we waited for our food. The drinks were huge and tasty(mango blackberry margarita). When the food came out… IT WAS TIME TO EAT. Everything was so good, we asked for some hot sauce and the waiter brought out like 3 different sauces. Took my leftovers home and killed it later that night. 10/10 Definitely would recommend if you’re looking for a Mexican spot.

Our server was really nice and the atmosphere was relaxing. The tables were extremely unique in design and was fun to sit at and look at it.
The Jalapeño Margarita wasn’t that spicy and the taste of of the Jalapeños was quite refreshing.
Food was hot and delicious, the portions were a great size. The chips they serve were not salty and the hot sauce wasn’t too hot but did tickle the throat. If you’re a person who can’t stand heat don’t eat it. They serve a very mild sauce as well.
A great place to visit on a rainy day!

Great atmosphere. Loved eating outside. Lots of gluten free options. The food was tasty and the service was great! Have returned twice. We had the taco tray, enchiladas, chimichanga. Better be hungry or bring someone when you come, portions are huge!

Best Mexican restaurant in Anchorage so far. While I haven’t ate at many restaurants of Mexican cuisine, this restaurant is awesome. Our server Jorge took care of us and made us feel at home. I got the Birria quesadilla and it was absolutely delicious. Well balanced of citrus and spice. Definitely check out Don Jose when you have the chance.

This place is great. The food is the real deal. The atmosphere is fun The manager(Yolanda) is WONDERFUL. She makes the best margarita in Alaska. We met the owner Jose and what a nice person. If you want great mexican food and a great time go to Don Jose’s and ask for Yolanda

It was alright. Service wasn’t that great. Sat by the bar and the bartender was talking to a couple the whole time. Didn’t bring water out until after I received my food. Just alright in food. Not bad but not great.

We travel all over the United States and finding Mexican food that we really like can be frustrating. This was the best we have had in a long time. Toni(waitress), Edwin(waiter), and Angelo(buser) were very attentive and friendly. The food was brought out in timely fashion and hot. I got the seafood chimichanga. It was full of scallops, crab and prawns. IT WAS HUGE!

Wow what a change from a year ago, and not good. Waitress was great but everything else was poor quality, also did not tell us re charge for chips/salsa. Food was lukewarm and therefore not very appetizing. They do have good beer but I can get that at almost any restaurant/bar.

Don Jose’s was one of the first Mexican restaurants I went to when I move to Anchorage back in 95. I’m very happy I did because I have tried many other Mexican restaurants the many years since I’ve been here and all of them have fallen short to Don Jose’s. Not only is the food and service always good but the prices have remained very reasonable as well. And it might be nit picking but the only reason that i didn’t give 5 stars is I’ve had a few servers that were not up to the standards that were set buy 90% of the other servers. But otherwise go here if you want good classic Mexican food at good prices
