Food—mediocre—Special Quesadilla with Ground Beef was bland, with yellow, rubbery cheese rather than the usual creamy white cheese at most restaurants. Ground beef was greasy. Guac was ok—not great, glad I didn’t opt to but the Guac App. The Chips were good, but the Salsa tasted basic—like a mild Pace Salsa. The Flan was terrible—very lite(not thick and creamy) and tasteless. Too bad I opted to get that fit $7. All in all there’s way better Mexican in OC. So I cannot recommend this place!
They have all the basic combos but there is about a $7 price difference if you want both rice and beans. Lower amount if you choose rice or beans. I dont know a Mexican restaurant that charges more for both rice AND beans. We ordered off the Lesser menu and ordered a side of rice for $5 to share. It was a large portion and saved us $$.
I ordered the chili verde pork burrito. Looked OK but the sauce was sour. Our server was nowhere to be found Soni couldn’t complain. She finally”stopped” by to see how we were doing. My friend said fine, I looked up to talk to tell the server about my food, and she ran off without looking at me.
I proceeded to just eat the inside of my burritos that was bland pork. I stopped eating realizing maybe the sauce went bad and I didn’t want to get sick.
When the server finally came by I told her the sauce was sour. Her response, “The green sauce is different than the red sauce” and mumbled something about tomatillo. I am aware it is made with tomatilo, but doesn’t mean it should taste sour.
That’s all that was said.
I grew up here eating at Don Jose’s and we would go weekly, but we moved to Temecula and would eat at their Location in Lake Elsinore, but unfortunately for us, Covid ended up keeping them from keeping it opened. We now drive periodically down from Temecula to enjoy a day eating the best Chips and Salas, and the most wonderful Tacos and Chicken Enchiladas. If I could have them back out our way, that would be our wish.
Was relieved to discover this is the Original location, and is not likely going anywhere soon
2/23/25 WOW! Had most expensive thing on menu… New York Steak, enchilada, rice, beans, and nice simple salad. Good Stuff! One of the Super Best restaurant values I’ve Ever experienced, at only twenty-six and a half bucks!
Keep up the great work DJ
