It’s a good classical tex mex style. Served in the typical rice and beans style. Endless chips and salsa. The queso app was pretty classic, nothing fancy, but the old school white cheese sauce.
The chile relleno dinner was good. Not the best I have ever had, but solid served with red sauce and very thin deep fried coating. The fajitas were served in classic cast iron hot plate. Good option. Tostada combo was also good, as well as carne asada tacos. The latter was a very good. Taco salad was served in a large crispy tortilla bowl. Options for soft vs hard shells .
They also have award winning pie supplied so don’t miss on that!

Don Chilillo’s is one of our favorite go-to dining spots on the west side of the lake. If you love margaritas—especially skinny ones—this is the place. The chips and salsa are always delicious, the food is served hot and fresh, and the service is excellent. The staff is consistently friendly and welcoming. My boyfriend usually orders the tacos, which never disappoint, and I’m a big fan of the pork carnitas. We’ve tried several dishes over the years, and everything has been consistently great. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and if you have room for dessert, the homemade pies are a must—they’re amazing.

I’ve heard many good reviews and will be coming in when I’m in town in a couple weeks! Menu has a lot to pick from, not just the basic tacos. And my favorite which I don’t find often is ceviche. That puts you at the top of my list. Can’t wait to try. Everything looks so good!

I really had a great dining experience at Don Chilillo’s (formerly Sunrise Cantina).
The service was very fast and top-notch, as our glasses of tea were never empty, and our complimentary chips and salsa were the best I’ve tasted since my 10 years living in San Antonio, Texas!
My delicious meal, called Popeyes, shown in the photos, consisted of seasoned grilled chicken topped with spinach, mushrooms, and cheese, with spanish rice and refried beans as sides, as well as 3 flour tortillas for stuffing.
Also pictured is a chimichanga, stuffed full of shredded chicken, and dressed in a cream sauce.
The portion sizes were very generous, and the prices were reasonable.
The atmosphere was casual and pleasant, and the music was quiet enough so that people can talk to each other without having to yell. There is one room containing a nice bar, and two other rooms for families or larger groups.
The staff was very friendly, and my folks and I had a great Tuesday nite dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant if you visit the Lake of the Ozarks!

This was an authentic Mexican restaurant. The food was excellent, as well was the staff. We ate there with a larger family group the night before Thanksgiving, and we were accommodated nicely without reservations. It has a very welcoming atmosphere.

I was not impressed. Ask to be seated by the windows and with a long delay told no. Food was ok. Service was not great. I won’t return.
