I dined here last this past summer. Hubs and I ordered from the walkup deli counter. We bought sandwiches and deli sides 20 minutes before closing. As we have done many occasions before, we headed to the dining room to sit down with our food. The tables were empty, the bar counter was full. The bartender said we couldn’t sit in the dining room. The area was closed. She went on to say, if we sat down she’s just going to kick us out. Holler of laughter from the cantankerous peanut gallery immediately followed. Good grief. So we sat outside in the summer heat, it was near triple digit temp. But we finished our meals before they even closed shop. We’re fast eaters. Dominick never kicked us out 20 minutes before closing. Plus the staff in the deli are more in tune to speaking amongst themselves instead of the customers right in front of them. Different vibes from the previous ownership.
The deli sandwiches are still pretty good. They use quality deli meats and bread. The cannolis are divine. On my last visit, I bought a couple of rice balls at the deli. They were delicious. They were a nice hefty size. They microwave them. Inside had creamy melting mozzarella and meat. They’re served with a side of marinara. Kiddos to the back of the house kitchen staff. Food is delicious but customer service is heartburn inducing.
My only complaint is because this place is a local favorite and the place is tiny, so not many seat available, therefore I learnt to call first and make reservations.
The sandwiches are bursting full of meat, so the smaller sizes will definitely fill you up. They keep a lot of novelty and import beverages in the fridge. Cannoli are made fresh in front of you.
This place is a little out of the way, but totally worth the trip.
Service was decent very friendly. Not a fan of the dining room.
The stuffed cherry peppers are tasty. My lunch guest was not a fan of the cheese inside of them, however I was.
Our visit was with the family and we ordered a couple of appetizers. The first was the antipasto which included cheeses, salami, coppa, olives, roasted peppers, and more. Complimented by a drizzle of olive oil, this was a perfect start to the meal. The next appetizer was a shrimp bruschetta. Personally I do not eat seafood, but I’m told it was good, the shrimp cooked well and the crostini delicious.
For entrees, I personally had the mushroom risotto with grilled chicken and a side of minestrone soup. The soup was actually the best minestrone I’ve ever had, unfortunately I don’t have a big stomach so I couldn’t eat the whole bowl if I wanted to eat my actually entree. The soup is loaded with lots of vegetables and beans, there is no pasta in the soup which was a nice difference.
The risotto was cooked very well, it was creamy and very mushroom flavor forward. However, if I had to critique the dish, it was under seasoned and could have used a nice pinch of salt and pepper. The grilled chicken was probably 2 seconds away from overcooked and the cut had some grisly parts. Overall, flavor is there, just some seasoning and maybe a bit more quality in the chicken and this would have been so good.
The rest of the family had their two specials, the Chilean Sea-bass and New York Steak with Shrimp, fettuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken, and cioppino.
My better half had the cioppino and was in heaven. Absolutely devoured it and really enjoyed the quality of the seafood. My son had the fettuccine and was very happy with his meal. The New York Steak and Shrimp was completely eaten, but there was some critiques with the Sea-Bass. Again, I don’t personally eat seafood, so I’m taking this from others to share. The sea-bass was floured and cooked, but not fried and also didn’t include a sauce or some sort of compliment to the fish. It did have a lot of delicious vegetables, but the lack of a sauce was missed.
That being said, the service was great. Our waiter was fun, funny, and we were well taken care of by the whole staff.
Overall, I will be going back and trying other food. It’s got a great atmosphere, the music was nice – not too loud and played modern songs. So, if you’re looking a good Italian place, definitely look at Dominick’s.
