My daughter has recently moved to the D.C. area and is determined to try as many different types of cuisines from the many cultures that call this area home. I was more than pleased to try Uyghur cuisine recently.

Parking was found around the corner on the street. There is an upstairs and downstairs with cozy areas to sit and dine. Large glass windows in front offer a nice view of the activities of this eclectic neighborhood.

Our first foray into Uyghur cuisine was a delight and introduced a delightfull mix of different flavors of well prepared foods.

We started with a large French press style carafe filled with one of the most delicious teas I have had in a while. They have their own blend of Dolan Gul Chai which is a floral tea. It was so enjoyed by both of us that we both purchased the 100g canister of this tea to bring home.

For appetizers we tried both the Samsa which had minced beef, lamb and onion and the Kawa .Samsa that was filled with butternut squash onions and peppers. They were delicious but sadly served as just piece.

We also tried the Arlash Korma, Goshnan and saved room for a dessert of Uyghur. I would definitely like to come back and try more of their traditional styles of food.

Dolan is such an amazing and unique restaurant! If you have never had Uyghur cuisine before, I highly recommend! The food is very warm and comforting, great for a cold day! I’m not vegetarian, but my friend was and she said the vegetarian options were great. Great food, great atmosphere, great service 🙂

As someone who hasn’t had Uyghur food before, I was extremely pleasantly surprised by the flavour these dishes had. All three were slightly spicy and sweet, slightly hotter than mild. The staff and service was quick and we had their Honey cake to finish the meal which was delectable. Highly recommend giving the restaurant a try if you are on the edge about Uyghur cuisine

Dolan serves amazing Xinjiang food! Everything tastes authentic, but the Big Plate Chicken is an absolute must-try — flavorful, generous portion, tender chicken, and delicious noodles. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is great. Highly recommend!

Delicious Uyghur cuisine which was interesting and different because it was a fusion of Central Asian and Chinese cooking styles. The flavors of each of our dishes were savory and aromatic with an emphasis on spices. We started with the Cold Egg Noodle which was a vibrant and refreshing meal with a savory, nutty and tangy flavor profile. For my main, I had the Pearled Noodles with Beef. The noodles had a chewy texture combined with tender beef in a gentle, mild spice. Lastly, for dessert, I had the Chocolate Baklava. The sweet syrup along with the flaky pastry was a great way to close out the meal. Overall, a delicious and unique dining experience.

Had the most excellent time again! My husband and I tried it once and loved it and brought the in laws to enjoy as well. The live music was incredible, the seating is SO comfortable and the food is just absolutely amazing. ♾️/10 I absolutely recommend this restaurant! Bad service, decent food.

I don’t want to conflate Chinese with Uyghyr but the service here is what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant – pretty bad.

We had a reservation for 2 at 6pm on a Saturday. We got seated upstairs in a corner and was forgotten for about 30 min. We finally ordered and the food came another 30 min later, so an hour after we got seated. We ordered:

1) Fried eggplant (10/10) which was pretty amazing and cooked perfectly.
2) Signature rice noodle with beef (8/10) which tasted good, but the rice noodles were slightly overcooked and broke apart too easily making it annoying to eat.
3) Dry pot (6/10) which was a touch too salty – we prefer the Chinese style dry-pot more.

Our water cups were not refilled in a timely manner which is unfortunate because the dry pot was kinda spicy in addition to being too salty.

The worst part of the dinner for me was the fact that this rude family was standint and loitering (it’s not that spacious upstairs) for at least 30 minutes. Since we were in the corner, I could literally feel their body heat as they hovered inches away from me. After about 30 minutes, someone finally asked them to leave.

Overall an unpleasant experience.

Such an incredible restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was amazing. We felt really well taken care of the whole time. We tried Chuchura, Samsa, Piter Manta, Royal Laghman, and Lamb Kebab, and honestly, everything was so flavorful and well made.
If you’re going, definitely try the Chuchura. It’s a comforting soup with dumplings and was one of our favorites. The Laghman was also amazing: tender meat, plenty of veggies, and the mushrooms gave it such a nice texture. The service was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly and attentive, which really made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
The desserts really hit the spot. If you like honey cake, chocolate honey cake Spartak, or Napoleon, you’ve got to try them. They were all just the right amount of sweet. We loved every single one. Highly recommend this restaurant!

One of my fave restaurants in DC! Beautifully decorated, always immaculate, and the food is delicious. I often come for dinner with friends after services or a concert across the street, and today I hung out with my laptop sipping on a pot of Dolan Chai.

We planned our dinner before we even arrived in DC. We planned a trip to the National Zoo followed by a relaxing dinner at Dolan Uyghur Restaurant right down the street. The staff was very welcoming. We were seated immediately. I love the QR scan for the menu, because I’d rather look at the menu on my phone than on a cumbersome menu touched by so many others. We didn’t get photos of all of our appetizers because we just dug in as everything smelled so delicious. The beverage selection was wonderful, I often feel halal restaurants just do the basic sodas a tea. We had a Mojito and a Peach Bellini, delicious and refreshing. (Non alcoholic of course) The food was fresh, service was perfectly timed, and everything was delicious. After a long day, it was great to step outside of the restaurant and enter the Cleveland Park Station! Perfect location! I always love when my daughter plans our trips because we get to see the best sites and the best restaurants.
