Dokutoku in Docklands was such a fun first sukiyaki experience. The staff were incredibly helpful and guided us through the process, which made it really easy and enjoyable.

We ordered the M9 Wagyu Sukiyaki Set, and it was the highlight of the meal. The wagyu was beautifully sliced so it cooked quickly and was incredibly tender. The dipping sauce leans on the sweeter side, but it pairs well with the beef and vegetables. It’s also a very generous portion, definitely enough to feed 2–3 people.

We also tried the Amaebi (sweet shrimp) which were fresh, delicate and sweet, though smaller and cuter than we expected!

The Chicken Katsu Japanese Curry Set was well balanced with crispy katsu, rich curry and a perfectly cooked onsen egg. I also appreciated the small rack detail that keeps the katsu and noodles elevated so they stay crispy.

Overall, a really enjoyable and interactive dining experience with great service. I’d happily come back again to explore more of the menu. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We recently visited and tried the gyukatsu and the sukiyaki with Australian beef. Overall, it was a really enjoyable meal.

The Australian beef had a good balance of marbling. It was not too fatty, but still tender and flavourful, which suited our preference very well. The sukiyaki was nicely seasoned and did not overpower the natural taste of the beef. The gyukatsu was crispy on the outside and still juicy inside.

The staff were polite and attentive, and service felt genuine throughout our visit. We also really liked the interior. The space is bright and comfortable, and the natural sunlight coming into the restaurant made the atmosphere feel warm and relaxing.

We would definitely come back again

Stumbled across this cute japanese restaurant for dinner and it did not disappoint! Everything was well priced and the star dish was the gyukatsu set, an exact replica of the one i had in japan. Highly recommend to anyone visiting this place. The eel was perfectly cooked and the sukiyaki had a nice balanced soy flavour.

This spot has been in my socials and I had been wanting to visit.

What a delightful meal! The gyukatsu teishoku was melt-in-your-mouth. The chicken katsu was a hit with the little one, and we demolished that unagi

The place can accommodate big groups and they are kid friendly.

The staff were friendly and accommodating. Hopefully next time they put on the AC as it appeared to be off when we visited and it was super warm in there.

Tried the Dokutoku Sukiyaki Set for 2 and the Signature Gyukatsu and both were honestly so good.
The sukiyaki set came with thinly sliced Australian wagyu, veggies, tofu, shirataki noodles and eggs! super comforting and perfect for sharing. The wagyu was really tender and flavourful, and the broth was rich without being too heavy.
The gyukatsu was a highlight for me. The wagyu was juicy and crispy on the outside, and the dipping sauces + onsen egg combo worked really well. Adding rice and miso soup made it a really satisfying meal.
Service was friendly and the place had a nice, relaxed vibe.
Would definitely come back if you’re craving good-quality wagyu in the city ❤️

I had such an amazing dining experience at Dokutoku Melbourne!

The highlight was definitely the Wagyu Premium M9 Sukiyaki beautifully marbled, rich in flavour, and cooked right at the table.
It was comforting, premium, and simply unforgettable.

I also tried the Signature Gyukatsu, which was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, with delicious dipping sauces to match.
To complement the meal, I had Jasmine Green Tea and Peach Oolong Tea, both super refreshing and balanced perfectly with the food.

The ambiance feels like an authentic Japanese izakaya cozy and welcoming.
The service was warm and attentive, making the whole experience even more special.

Highly recommend Dokutoku if you’re in Melbourne and craving authentic Japanese flavours and premium Wagyu.
Will definitely be coming back!

I had dinner at Dokutoku Store today and ordered Sukiyaki Wagyu. While eating, I discovered two winged insects and visible insect eggs on the Chinese cabbage provided with the dish. This strongly indicates that the vegetables were not properly washed before being served, which is a serious food safety concern.

After I reported this to the staff, the cabbage containing the insects was taken away by the person in charge. When it was returned, it had clearly been cleaned and altered. Fortunately, I had already taken photos as evidence before it was removed.

I then requested a full refund. After waiting for around 20 minutes, I was told that because I had “already eaten most of the food,” a full refund would not be offered. I was also asked why I only raised the issue after most of the meal was finished.
For clarity, Sukiyaki is normally eaten by having the meat first, followed by the vegetables, which is exactly when the issue was discovered.

In the end, management only offered a 10% discount, which I declined. This is not about the money, but about food hygiene, customer safety, and the way this issue was handled.

Due to the seriousness of this incident, I will be lodging a formal complaint with the relevant City Council and food safety authorities. I would advise other customers to be cautious.

An exceptional sukiyaki experience in the heart of the Docklands. Our server was friendly, and she recommended their highlight dishes which we ordered and it was the perfect amount for 2! The beef was beautifully marbled and melt-in-your-mouth tender, cooked in a rich, savoury-sweet broth that hit all the right notes. We enjoyed every bite! From the quality of the ingredients to the depth of flavour of the caramelised sauce!

A cute little gem for anyone who appreciates authentic Japanese cosy dining experience. As for parking, it’s paid parking till 6pm! We will definitely be back!
