We ordered the M9 Wagyu Sukiyaki Set, and it was the highlight of the meal. The wagyu was beautifully sliced so it cooked quickly and was incredibly tender. The dipping sauce leans on the sweeter side, but it pairs well with the beef and vegetables. It’s also a very generous portion, definitely enough to feed 2–3 people.
We also tried the Amaebi (sweet shrimp) which were fresh, delicate and sweet, though smaller and cuter than we expected!
The Chicken Katsu Japanese Curry Set was well balanced with crispy katsu, rich curry and a perfectly cooked onsen egg. I also appreciated the small rack detail that keeps the katsu and noodles elevated so they stay crispy.
Overall, a really enjoyable and interactive dining experience with great service. I’d happily come back again to explore more of the menu. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Australian beef had a good balance of marbling. It was not too fatty, but still tender and flavourful, which suited our preference very well. The sukiyaki was nicely seasoned and did not overpower the natural taste of the beef. The gyukatsu was crispy on the outside and still juicy inside.
The staff were polite and attentive, and service felt genuine throughout our visit. We also really liked the interior. The space is bright and comfortable, and the natural sunlight coming into the restaurant made the atmosphere feel warm and relaxing.
We would definitely come back again
What a delightful meal! The gyukatsu teishoku was melt-in-your-mouth. The chicken katsu was a hit with the little one, and we demolished that unagi
The place can accommodate big groups and they are kid friendly.
The staff were friendly and accommodating. Hopefully next time they put on the AC as it appeared to be off when we visited and it was super warm in there.
The sukiyaki set came with thinly sliced Australian wagyu, veggies, tofu, shirataki noodles and eggs! super comforting and perfect for sharing. The wagyu was really tender and flavourful, and the broth was rich without being too heavy.
The gyukatsu was a highlight for me. The wagyu was juicy and crispy on the outside, and the dipping sauces + onsen egg combo worked really well. Adding rice and miso soup made it a really satisfying meal.
Service was friendly and the place had a nice, relaxed vibe.
Would definitely come back if you’re craving good-quality wagyu in the city ❤️
The highlight was definitely the Wagyu Premium M9 Sukiyaki beautifully marbled, rich in flavour, and cooked right at the table.
It was comforting, premium, and simply unforgettable.
I also tried the Signature Gyukatsu, which was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside, with delicious dipping sauces to match.
To complement the meal, I had Jasmine Green Tea and Peach Oolong Tea, both super refreshing and balanced perfectly with the food.
The ambiance feels like an authentic Japanese izakaya cozy and welcoming.
The service was warm and attentive, making the whole experience even more special.
Highly recommend Dokutoku if you’re in Melbourne and craving authentic Japanese flavours and premium Wagyu.
Will definitely be coming back!
After I reported this to the staff, the cabbage containing the insects was taken away by the person in charge. When it was returned, it had clearly been cleaned and altered. Fortunately, I had already taken photos as evidence before it was removed.
I then requested a full refund. After waiting for around 20 minutes, I was told that because I had “already eaten most of the food,” a full refund would not be offered. I was also asked why I only raised the issue after most of the meal was finished.
For clarity, Sukiyaki is normally eaten by having the meat first, followed by the vegetables, which is exactly when the issue was discovered.
In the end, management only offered a 10% discount, which I declined. This is not about the money, but about food hygiene, customer safety, and the way this issue was handled.
Due to the seriousness of this incident, I will be lodging a formal complaint with the relevant City Council and food safety authorities. I would advise other customers to be cautious.
A cute little gem for anyone who appreciates authentic Japanese cosy dining experience. As for parking, it’s paid parking till 6pm! We will definitely be back!
