I hate to leave a low review, however this place was truly disappointing. The food was less than subpar.. I think we left more on our plates than we ate. The chicken was spoiled and smelled, the corned beef was a solid brick and the sauce tasted like rotten mayo. The onion rings were really the only thing edible that we ordered. I left feeling sick to my stomach. We won’t return.

Nice place. Clean. Food was good except the gravy used on the mashed potatoes. Salad bar was good and so was the soup. This place deserves more traffic. Could use a little background music since its pretty quiet.

First of all, to the locals, the chicken and sauce tastes exactly like Candelite’s. I had the chicken soup which was tepid and a bit bland. My husband had the potato soup and said it was hot and amazing. He had a cheeseburger which he said was very good but a bit small for the bun. I had the chicken which was also very good. The fries needed some seasoning, very bland.

My only complaint was that all I really wanted was some chicken and onion rings but was unable to do this. They would only sell onion rings as an appetizer. I thought I’d just get some chicken a la cart and an appetizer of onion rings but you can only get an a la cart order of chicken if you order it to go. I settled for the only side allowed with the chicken – fries.

Went for the Easter buffet. Requested reservations for 11:30 and was told they were full. We sat there until noon and there were several empty tables. The server brought us drinks and never mentioned help yourself to the buffet or something similar. The salad bar was near empty, enough lettuce for one salad, very little cheese, etc.. The salad dressings in their bottles from Walmart sitting in a bowl of ice and the soup in a residential crock pot. The food was okay but lacked a lot of favor. I think the buffet should be closer to the kitchen and was an odd layout overall. Staff was friendly but likely won’t be back based on taste and overall dining experience. The cook brought out onion rings as we were leaving, no gloves, no hat, no beard guard and took an onion ring bare handed out the door to a customer.

The Buffet Idea is Outstanding!! So need one in our area. However the food was not very good. The breakfast quiche was unedible. Scrambled Eggs had no flavor nor the breakfast gravy. Fried chicken was good though. Battered and flavorful. Mashed potatoes again no flavor and dry. Nice service everyone was nice. Salt and pepper shakers were dirty and sticky. I probably won’t go back but again the idea of the Dogwood Inn is a great idea. Just needs a bit of work.

I’ve driven and rode past this place many times over the years, but never stopped in. On our way home we were hungry and thought, lets give them a try. We got there at an odd time on a Sunday as there were only a couple of other tables occupied. We were greeted and seated promptly. The staff was friendly.

The inside looks like a clean mom and pop restaurant you’ll find in rural America. This one appears to be better maintained then most, but still gave that dated, rural Americana feel… which is warm and welcoming.

The food is what you expect at places like this. It’s warm, comfort food that isn’t offensive to the pallet and priced to keep you coming back. I had an opened faced beef sandwich special they were offering. Which was to my liking. It wasn’t anything special, but it was good and hit the spot. My girlfriend had their fried chicken. She liked it, but again it was nothing special.

They did have a good selection of pies, unfortunately we were both full and didn’t dare try any, but they did look good.

Overall I’d say if you’re in the area and hungry, you won’t be disappointed. Just don’t expect anything too fancy.

Jake’s basket was delicious and very filling. However, don’t forget some pie! Very nice portions and the people were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the Dogwood Inn and look forward to going back to try more!
