I was in the neighborhood recently and excited to discover Dodah’s Vegan Kitchen. As someone who is plant-based/vegan, I was eager to give it a try. I ordered the sides platter, choosing the mushroom salad as my main side along with the sweet kale salad and collard greens. Every dish was flavorful, well-seasoned, and generously portioned. I had leftovers for a couple of days, which was great.

Where I think there’s room for improvement is in the customer service experience. There was only one staff member working, and although the restaurant wasn’t busy at the time, there was no greeting when I entered. The thick glass barriers in front of the food also made it a bit difficult to hear and communicate.

I believe small touches can go a long way—like acknowledging guests when they arrive, asking if it’s their first time, offering guidance on popular dishes, or suggesting samples without waiting to be asked. Those personal interactions help make customers feel welcome and more inclined to return. Unfortunately, I felt like I was a bit of a bother when trying to ask questions or get a better feel for the menu.

That said, I did sample the mac & cheese and the plantains. Both were delicious, and I’d definitely consider trying them if I come back in the future.

All in all, the food was fantastic, and with a few adjustments to the customer experience, this spot could be a favorite.

Food was delicious and fresh. I had the fried oyster mushrooms and they came out steaming hot and crunchy. I don’t eat fried food often and they were so good! I had the collard greens; they had just the right amount of seasoning with a slight vinegar taste that was scrumptious. Last I had my favorite, cabbage! They mixed it in with sliced peppers and onions. I love cabbage and served peppery like this is soo yummy!

Service: 1 star off because the staff was in the kitchen and the self service kiosk was not working correctly so I had to flag down the staff to get their attention. Once they came up front, they were really nice. And the cook made the best fried oyster mushrooms.

Atmosphere: clean and I love the plants. It’s a spot for a quick lunch. The bathroom was also really clean with a nice air dryer that worked well. *I only give 5 stars to sexy places I go for date night or chill places I can sit and read for hours.

It hurts to say, but this location has fallen off drastically.

I’m sure it comes with great pressure being the only true vegan spot in town and I don’t think a lot of people are cut out for that. Respectfully.

Another major downside here is that the people that you guys hire don’t speak a lick of english…

Which doesn’t help AT ALL in a predominantly urban area. Though we still have respect for them. It would help to be able to communicate.

I say all of this as someone who truly enjoys this franchise.

Hopefully this message finds you well and you seek to make improvements in the near future.

No line when I arrived.

Cons: No customer service, the gentleman did not open his mouth to speak not once. No greeting, no verbal acknowledgement,no thank you after spending almost $40.

The sandwich was extremely salty, the food was not warm. Fries were saggy, rice and beans were not warm or flavored, the Mac and cheese was dry along with the carrot cake tasting like it’s been sitting for several days.

This is the second location I’ve visited and this by far was the worst. I will not return or suggest. Total food cost, experience while in the establishment, and food quality was a 1/1. Just because it was the only vegan option near me at that time and I was hungry. I’m truly disappointed in this situation.

I recently visited Dodah’s Kitchen, and while the overall experience had its highlights, there were some aspects that could be improved.

Service: The customer service was good once it started, but it was frustrating walking in and finding no one at the front. I had to call out for assistance, which wasn’t the most welcoming start.

Food:
• The vegan ribs were disappointing—too hard for my liking. I think they would be much better if made with jackfruit instead.
• The fried shrimp had great flavor but was fried a bit too hard.
• The vegetables were delicious, and the mac & cheese was especially good.
• The seafood mac was amazing but a little dry.
• The General Tso’s cauliflower was a standout—absolutely delicious!

Overall, Dodah’s has some great plant-based options, but I’d love to see some tweaks to certain dishes to enhance the textures. I’d still recommend it for a good vegan soul food experience!

The food was so disappointing, I threw most of it away. I’ve had vegan food all around the DMV area and this was the worst I’ve had. I order the fried mushroom oysters but they ran out, so I opted for the BBQ vegan ribs with the seafood mac and garlic kale. As well, I ordered a side of the General Tso’s cauliflower with rice. Everything looked good but taste was not good. The General Tso’s sauce smelled like cleaning fluid or weird smell that was off-putting and tasted just like it smelled. The ribs weren’t good either. Only food I could tolerate were the seafood mac and kale greens, which were okay. Very upsetting and won’t be back here!

When you all first opened at this location the food was good. The food quality has really gone down. It’s sad that you have people working there that don’t speak English. Your customer population mostly speaks English. I only like the drumettes now. The greens are bland. I bought fried mushrooms last night they were not good. The young lady put to many in the basket at one time, causing them not to be fully cooked. I hope you all improve. As I mentioned before it was really good at one time.

This is probably my last time here, they never speak english and won’t tell you they are out of something until after you pay. When I got there the lights were off, because they are on sensors and the person hadn’t moved until I walked in. I would love to catch it when the food is fresh.. you would think on a Sunday after church I would luck up.

Hit or miss. I genuinely like the food and I’m not even vegan. My issue is that sometimes the food is amazing then other times it seems like it was prepared with no effort at all. Today I didn’t get the correct number of drummies in my order and the kale, which is my favorite menu item, had zero flavor.

Customer service is terrible because most of the time the staff doesn’t speak English. I’ve only been served by one employee that I could have a conversation with. I’ve tried to change my order but it’s useless if the staff person doesn’t understand my concern.
