Stopped for lunch at Doc Watson’s in Oakland, NJ and had a great experience. Service was friendly and quick. We started with the chili, which came with crispy tortilla chips and hit the spot.
We ordered two spicy chicken sandwiches. Both had a breaded chicken breast, pepper jack cheese, frizzled onions, and chipotle mayo. One came with bacon and maple fries, the other with regular fries. Everything was hot, flavorful, and satisfying. Solid lunch stop with good food and great service.

The back room was perfect for our class reunion in October! The atmosphere was lovely and the food was fantastic! Bernice and Meg were wonderful to work with in the planning and Gavin was an absolute rock star the night of the event! Parking was easy and the bar staying open late was a bonus for people that kept the party going. I highly recommend and am so glad that Oakland has this gem of a restaurant in town 🙂

Full respect for all reviews HOWEVER! The fish tacos are SO delicious! We had them for appetizer but have thought about them every day. You have got to try them. I am making them my meal next time! Nice to have a good, solid eatery so close.

This place is a gem!!! The food here is very good comes out so so so quick, I mean today I had the French Onion Soup and it was very very good. My associate got tater tots and they pop in your mouth 10/10 I would definitely recommend this place on any day of the week.

We came for dinner last night with a group of 6. So thankful they sat us at a round table. It’s so much better for conversation! Overall it was a good experience. The bourbon mule was a hit. The salty pup needed a little more grapefruit flavor, the doc’s tea was a bit watery. The cucumber over mint lemonade tasted perfectly of cucumbers but the mint lemonade was missing. Aperol Spritz was great!! The service was fantastic. Very friendly servers. For appetizers we ordered the Brussels sprouts over whipped feta. It was the best dish of the evening in my opinion. The other app we ordered was the tater tots and those were super tasty as well. Everyone was happy with their entrees. A few items of the special menu, a pizza, fish & chips, and a spicy chicken sandwich. One person ordered the nachos as her dinner and wow!! What a huge portion and super tasty. The maple waffle fries were different & fun. We ordered no dessert as we were full and nothing really excited us. Overall, I would go back. The cocktails need work and the dessert menu needs things that sound homemade. The food is delicious & staff made it a pleasant experience.

We stopped by yesterday for dinner. We ordered the wings and thai chili ribs for appetizers. For our entrees we had the curry chicken, blackened salmon, flat iron steak on a cibatta bread, ahi tacos, and sausage with peppers quesadilla. We couldn’t stay to eat there because my wife is allergic to the cleaning supplies they use there. The manager came to apologize and they were accommodating our orders from dine in to take out. The food did not disappoint and I would definitely order food from them as everything we ordered was delicious. The Thai chili ribs for me was the stand out meal. The ribs were super tender and perfectly cooked.

I had the fish sandwich at Doc Watson’s today and it was fantastic! The fish was fresh and perfectly crispy, the bun was soft, and the whole thing was seasoned just right. You can tell the chef takes pride in the food — everything tasted like it was made with care. Hands down one of the best fish sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. Compliments to the chef!

Great nitro Guinness pours. Great mixed drinks. Menu is SO different but everything looked so good. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and it was superb. Would highly recommend. This is going to be me and my husbands new local spot. Service was also incredible! Shout out to Mark!

As an Oakland resident, I would NOT recommend this place.
Dined here with my wife on 10/10 night around 7pm. The place was NOT busy.
Food was OK. Wings were bland and pretty dry. Drinks weren’t very strong either but I can look past that.
The service was almost non-existent. This was the first time in my life, dining at a restaurant where I didn’t know the server’s name.
There was no greeting at all. Server just approached us and asked us what we wanted. We tried making small talk with her but was pretty much ignored.
Someone else brought our food and drinks. We sat through our ENTIRE meal without being asked if the food was alright, if we wanted any more drinks, etc… We were only approached when she finally noticed we were finished eating. Didn’t ask if we wanted desserts or anything like that. Approached us with that little POS device so we asked for the check. We paid and didn’t receive a thank you or a farewell.
The wife assumed maybe the server was having a bad day but we witnessed her talk to every table she was serving. It was almost a slap to the face.
